The role is based in the specialist Dispute Consultancy’s Bristol office with an opportunity to work within a specialist construction Quantum Claims team. Your role will focus on construction claims management within a broader construction claims division.You will be a part of the team which work on construction claims nationally in the UK and internationally. Reporting to nationally recognized number of Claims and Disputes Experts will help you acquire guidance, training, and professional development in abundance.
Project DetailsThe project includes a range of civil and building projects located in the UK and range of expert service assignments based in international locations. In Building construction projects, the quantum claims resolution work will be majorly related in retail and health projects.Whereas, in Civil Engineering Construction claims work will majorly be focused on rail, infrastructure construction and upgrade work for roads and utilities/water projects. A short-term international travel for high level meetings with clients and projects may be necessary for large building or civil engineering quantum claims assignments. The work is based from the Bristol office of the company.
Responsibilities and DutiesThe candidate will have to join an expert construction claims team or will have to run a construction claims team working on a particular client claims projectPresentation of methodical, thorough, and detailed research findings to colleagues, lawyers, and senior client representatives with natural gravitas orally and in written format to establish facts relevant to all stages of the construction process.Candidates will be required to have built up significant technical knowledge in a relevant role such as a quantity surveyor or commercial manager. During this time, you will have gained exposure to several complex projects and the ability to understand disputes that arise on projectsCandidate should be able to provide claims consultancy advice on live contracts and projects in distress to a high professional standard supported in a structured manner by clear cross-referencing to the relevant documents analysed.The ability to engage with confidence with solicitors and clientsAbility to take on board, and react positively to, constructive criticism. In this regard, the candidate should be driven and passionate about developing their skills and delivering a high standard of work.
Desired Skills and ExperienceCandidate should have 4 – 10 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Cost ManagerStrong and transferrable experience of working as a contractor's Project Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor is preferred, with reference to having worked on claims matters arising because of having managed a significantly sized contract like JCT and NEC from commencement to final account, and with responsibility for managing the claims preparation process throughout the duration and completion of contracted worksThe candidate should have experience in working with a claims construction team or managing a construction claims team on a client claims assignmentExperience of presenting the construction claims strategy to be adopted as well as demonstrating command of the detail of the claim, both orally and in written form to colleagues, lawyers, and senior client representatives with natural gravitasAble to offer advice on a range of national and international construction contract forms to clients and the process and procedures relating to them that are available to pursue or rebut a claimExperience and ability to work alone to provide claims consultancy advice on live contracts and projects in destress to highest professional standard without supervision and to collaborate to complete complex tasks under tight time deadlinesAble to deploy a broad range of prior experience from a variety construction sectors to the construction claim issues under consideration
Qualifications/Educational RequirementsA degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Cost Management is preferredMSc or LLM in Construction law is desirable
