Brief Description
CDE RenME-N is looking for a forward-thinking Senior Project Engineer (Signalling) to join its successful team. This role offers an opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking rail project delivery directorate and contribute to continuous improvement within project delivery. The ideal candidate should have experience managing programmes through design and delivery, ensuring adherence to Common Safety Method (CSM), Interoperability Regulations, and National Technical Specification Notices (NTSNs) with demonstrable knowledge in these areas. The candidate should also have experience in a design-to-cost environment and be capable of challenging standards, working practices, and cultures. As a Senior Project Engineer (Signalling), you will be part of the RenME-N directorate and report to the Project Delivery Engineer Manager (PDEM). You will lead a team of Signalling Engineers to fulfill our core purpose within major multifunctional projects or a portfolio of small-medium sized projects.
About the role (External)
Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to deliver a cost-effective, high-quality, safe, and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning, and other technical activities on relevant projects in line with legislation.
Assure the competence of all Project Engineers within the subject area and provide guidance, direction, and briefing.
Apply engineering controls and procedures to ensure all design and construction contracts refer to appropriate Codes of Practice and monitor compliance.
Evaluate projects using the project disposition assessment tool to determine the most appropriate project delivery model.
Apply relevant risk assessment techniques and procedures to all projects.
Advise project and programme management on construction activities, testing, commissioning, and site supervision.
Assure compliance with legislation and construction design management (CDM) regulations.
Assure the competency of contractors' personnel and quality of supply chain outputs.
Undertake reviews of design and construction activities, and conduct risk-based assurance of contractor activities.
Undertake accident investigations and identify root causes/corrective actions required.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
Significant Signalling renewals and enhancement project delivery experience.
Technical qualifications to at least HNC level or equivalent.
Membership of a relevant professional institution.
Experience in managing project hazards and safety management.
Understanding of legal obligations, interoperability, and environmental issues.
Demonstrable skills in building positive relationships and creating development opportunities.
Proven ability to challenge and improve services and approaches.
Experience in supporting well-being and safety, and working through complex issues.
Desirable:
Experience in Client/Supply Chain/Alliancing environment.
Contributed to formal accident/incident investigations.
Chartered status and risk management experience.
Engineering assurance expertise and IRSE membership.
