Our client
Our client, a climate-tech spin-out company from the University of Oxford, is on a mission to develop novel catalysts and reactor designs to convert carbon dioxide and hydrogen into hydrocarbons to meet rapidly growing market demand for fuels to meet SAF regulations as well as for the petrochemicals market, not least surfactants, synthetic lubricants, and plastics.
The business has recently closed a substantial funding round including leading US and UK venture funds, oil majors, traders, airlines, and others. Leveraging this funding round, the organisation will expand its facilities, double its team headquartered in the UK and scale-up the technology with demo plants in Oxford.

Position description.
The business is looking for a Senior Process Engineer with operations experience who is ready for the step up to become the Site Team Leader for the commissioning and operation of the pilot units. The role will involve leading a team through installation, commissioning, startup, and continuous operation of a series of scale up pilot units. You will collaborate closely with a team of skilled Engineers to identify opportunities for improvement.
You will have opportunities to design, scale-up and operate state-of-the-art catalytic processes to convert CO2 into long chain hydrocarbons such as aviation fuel. You will be engaged in both lab-based and industry-based works and gain a complete understanding of the novel product operation and workflow with hands-on experience.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities.
· Lead a team of Engineers through installation, commissioning, and operation of demo plants.
· Setup procedures for commissioning and operation.
· Conduct research studies and trials.
· Troubleshoot our various procedures.
· Drive continuous improvement, innovation in the Engineering team to improve quality, productivity, and efficiency.
· Making sure engineering delivery business procedures and best practices are being used.
· Promote a positive safety culture across engineering and capital projects.

Qualifications and experience.
To be successful you will ideally have:
· A degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
· Experience within a research facility, ideally leading own research.
· Experience working in an operation and design environment.
· Experience with commissioning and startup.
· Chartered member of IChemE would be preferable.
· Self-motivated and ready to work on a commercial endeavour.
· Experience of health and safety in the lab and/or plant
· An understanding of synthetic fuels, syngas or the chemical/petrochemical processes would be preferable.
· A passion to deal with the climate challenges we all are facing now.
· Able to take and give direction and feedback and to work cohesively within a diverse, fast-paced, innovative team and deal with uncertainty.
· Ability to listen and learn from wider team.
· Ability to come into the office a minimum of 4 times per week and to travel.
