Interim Senior Planning Officer

Pay rate: Up to £23.03 per hour PAYE depending on experience
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
This opening assignment is for 3 months

Hybrid working - normally 2 days in the office per week but this can be flexible
An enthusiastic planning professional is required to support the Planning Development Management Service and help deliver efficient and effective planning decisions. The council is ambitious to be a net zero county by 2045 and excited by numerous innovative projects to transform local infrastructure and services, support growth, and attract new investment. Key responsibilities:
Responsible for managing a varied caseload of planning applications, responding to pre-application advice, and participating in local planning liaison focused on the county council’s land-use planning responsibilities.
The team act with a high degree of autonomy and are encouraged to be creative and innovative in their practice.
Work on cases ranging from extensions to, and variations to mineral workings and waste management operations, and public infrastructure projects owned or operated by the County Council such as schools, libraries, other public buildings, roads, and cycleways.
Work with other professionals across the County Council, local district councils, and neighbouring and nearby minerals and waste planning authorities, environmental regulators, interest groups, members of the public, and industry.
Very occasional out of normal office hours working (e.g., early mornings, evenings, and weekends) will be required to successfully carry out the duties of the post.
Provide planning advice, and to source and co-ordinate technical input received from other environmental disciplines in respect of the Environmental Impact Assessment regime (e.g. EIA screening and scoping).
Represent the County Council planning service at local planning liaison meetings in person or virtually as requested by the Principal Planning Officer or Team Manager.
Support the County Council’s planning enforcement & monitoring activities through planning advice, site knowledge and development management experience to augment investigations of suspected planning breaches, dispute resolutions, and the undertaking of formal action.
