Our project has been operating discretely since 2017, since then we have been working towards our goal of changing the world of logistics and mobility via future technology Aerospace vehicle solutions.
We are currently searching for a Senior Motor Design Engineer to join our team. You will have the rare opportunity to engage in the full life cycle of vehicle development—from conceptualisation and prototyping right through to eventual certification—you will be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, designing, prototyping, and testing the motors that will power our next-generation eVTOL aircraft.
Our project is incredibly unique and cutting-edge, and we need the best of the best to make it happen. If you are motivated by impact and making a difference, whilst working with some of the best minds in industry, this may be the role for you.
Responsibilities:Lead the design and iterative refinement of high-performance electrical motors specific to eVTOL applications. Conduct complex simulations to model motor behaviours under different flight conditions using tools like Ansys Maxwell or JMAG. Simulate and analyse thermal dynamics, electromagnetic fields, and mechanical stresses to refine motor designs. Determine optimal sizing and selection of motor components such as magnets, windings, and cores. Utilise computational methods to balance performance, efficiency, weight, and cost considerations. Ensure all motor designs comply with international safety standards, such as those set by the FAA or EASA, and incorporate best practices for aerospace design and manufacturing. Work closely with aerodynamics, electronics, and software teams to integrate the propulsion system effectively within the aircraft's architecture.Stay abreast of latest developments in motor technology and incorporate innovative solutions into design practices.Ensure all designs meet stringent aerospace quality standards and regulatory compliance.Skills / Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or PhD is preferable.Minimum of 5 years in motor design engineering, with specific experience in brushless DC motors and their application in aerospace or similar industries.Expertise in electromagnetic theory, thermal management, materials science. What will set you apart:Demonstrated mastery in the design and development of high-performance electric motors for aerospace applications.Proficiency in using advanced simulation tools to model motor behaviour under various conditions, ensuring designs are robust and optimised.Previous experience in eVTOL or related aerospace fields is highly desirable.
At SkyBridge, we want all of our employees to feel comfortable bringing their passion, creativity and individuality to work. We value all cultures, backgrounds and experiences, as we truly believe that diversity drives innovation.
