About the TeamThis is an exciting opportunity working within the OME (Optronics Missile Electronics) division, who deliver future state-of-the-art fuzing and optronics products for some of the most technically advanced land, air and sea defence and security platforms in the world!We're seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer, who can apply their knowledge and skills in an innovative mechanical engineering environment. We have built up a multi-disciplined team passionate about developing products for a safer world and we are now looking for like-minded engineers to join us.Our OpportunityThis role covers all aspects of the product lifecycle, from requirements through specification, concept studies, selection of technology, design and development, integration, validation and qualification. This is a great opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to build their skills and develop their career, while contributing to the design and support of a range of systems.Responsibilities Include:
Responsible for the completion of concept generation and design and development tasks in line with the agreed project plan. Deliver your commitments to cost, schedule, and the required level of quality.
Follow the Thales Design Lifecycle process, working with peers to ensure the design is thoroughly reviewed and fit for purpose
Bring fresh Mechanical Design Engineering expertise into our new and existing product lines. Our products contain several complex opto-mechanical sub-assemblies and operate in very demanding physical environments, so a high degree of engineering rigour is required. Day to day this could mean:
Ensure requirements are achieved and perform adequate engineering due diligence as the design matures, including modal and stress analysis of the system
Gain internal and external stakeholder buy-in to your design decisions
Prototype complex or risky elements of the design to ensure compliance
Prepare for and participate in independent technical reviews in line with our internal guidelines
Deliver a robust, independently reviewed datapack onto our CAD and configuration management systems.
Work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders including Design Authorities, other engineering disciplines and Supply-Chain or Manufacturing contacts

Existing Mechanical Design Engineering knowledge combined with good emotional intelligence.
Experience of CAD systems (preferably PTC tools) and implicit/explicit FEA tools, ideally with the ANSYS workbench and LS-Dyna
A good understanding of materials, shock/vibration induced stress and thermal management is essential
Experience in working with or designing for explosives is desirable
Ability to work efficiently and autonomously
Desire to take an innovative approach to solving complex problems
Experience of working in and understanding the Engineering Lifecycle
Experience of precision components, optics, electronics packaging and servo-mechanisms is desirable.
The ability to clearly present designs and analysis results to your team and project
