An opportunity has arisen for a Senior and/or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our leading Engineering Consultancy, operating within our OMC cost centre (i.e., Oxford, Milton Keynes, and Cambridge) based in our Oxford Office.
Our Oxford office was established in 2007 to provide a local presence on our projects. Now with over 45 engineers and specialists, we have an abundance of expertise and knowledge that is regularly called upon throughout the firm, mainly within complex engineering sectors such as Science and Research and Healthcare.

As a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the development of mechanical designs, with the opportunity to lead projects of varying types and sizes. In addition, you will take an active role with all elements associated with a construction stage management, in both Client appointed and novated roles. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of talented engineers and support staff, delivering a consistent high-quality service for Clients, ensuring that repeat and new business opportunities are developed, and profitability is achieved.

What you’ll be doing
You will be working primarily on a variety of projects with opportunity to also work on a varied portfolio of projects both in the UK and Internationally.
You will be able to lead mechanical services design on large projects, and haver the opportunity to lead the overall MEP delivery on small to medium sized projects within the office.
You will act as a technical mechanical lead.
Carry out construction stage monitoring duties, including submission reviews and site-based duties.
Responsible for dealing successfully with Clients and other professionals.
Awareness of consultant appointment conditions.
Competently represent Hoare Lea at project meetings.
Manage and prioritise the workload of a project team, working alongside our internal specialist groups.
Host and chair internal project team meetings.
Contribute to the professional development of individual team members.
Actively identify opportunities for your career progression and provide support the for the career development of others.
Plan, monitor and report resource and cost requirements.
Ensure quality standards and technical accuracy is delivered.
What we are looking for
Excellent technical knowledge in Mechanical Design Engineering and a well-rounded understanding of Building Services Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.
Previous consultancy experience: you will appreciate the importance of complementary specialisms such as sustainability, fire engineering and acoustics in the design of buildings.
Autonomous approach: able to lead small to medium sized projects and able to take a brief from the project lead on large projects and deliver and control the tasks required.
Appreciation of client needs, with ability to face clients.
Understand and identify resource needs.
Mentor and supervise less experienced members of staff.
Chartered, or proactively working towards chartered engineer status.
