Senior Mechanical Engineer - Birmingham - to �60,000 + package

Are you interested in using your building services Mechanical Design skills in a role that will also allow you to have an impact on the energy efficiency of the built environment?

We are working with a consultancy that aligns design with energy reduction and the decarbonisation of the built environment, to help them find their next Senior Mechanical Engineer.

Established over 30 years ago they deliver M&E design consultancy services, energy efficiency, carbon management and cost reduction solutions to their clients across a range of sectors including Commercial, Residential, Education and Industrial.

You will be working as part of the mechanical design team to deliver projects from feasibility through to construction. This is a technical role and will enable you to work on all parts of the project from upfront strategic planning, right through to project management and implementation.

The role will give you the autonomy to lead projects, liaising directly with clients and working on the client's behalf to deliver projects in line with the targeted time scales and energy efficiency requirements.

Based in their Birmingham office and working directly with the Principal Engineer, you will be joining a M&E team of 15 engineers. The office is home to 60 employees, newly refurbished and open plan, so you will have the whole team around you for support.

What you'll do:

  • Design, specifications, and construction stage project management of mechanical projects (all aspects of mechanical Services), this will include all RIBA stages.
  • Run and lead your own projects. This will be multiple projects at any one time.
  • Ensuring all projects are designed and implemented to meet British Standards and other appropriate legislation.
  • Mechanical Services Feasibility Study and Energy Efficiency Reports, air source heat pumps, plant room refurbishments, heating and domestic hot water projects.
  • Attend project meetings.
  • Attend regular Design Department meetings where workload schedules will be planned.
  • Develop good relationships with each team member.
  • Assist with implementing QA procedures for all projects.
  • Become a Team Leader whom Junior and Graduate Engineers would report to. Help develop and train Junior and Graduate Engineers as required.
  • Assist The Design Manager with the implementation of the Design strategy.

What you'll need:

  • Ideally at least 10 years Design experience.
  • Professionally qualified to at least Higher National Certificate Level.
  • Ideally a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership status (the company would support in this).
  • Experience in Mechanical engineering, engineering consultancy and/or Mechanical installations
  • Experience in design calculation software packages e.g., Design Builder, Heavcomp, TAS.
  • Good working knowledge of utility services both new connections and disconnections
  • Good working knowledge of industry regulations, Mechanical design, and installations
