Senior Mechanical Engineer - Mechanical Handling

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senor Mechanical Engineer - Mechanical Handling, to be involved in industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.
Job Purpose:
To lead the design of key Reactor Island mechanical handling equipment that will be utilised during the operational life of the SMR power station to support both refuelling campaigns and/or through-life activities.
Key Results and Achievements:

  1. Successful progression of mechanical handling equipment through the design lifecycle gated review process to agreed project timescales.
  2. Successful development of the claims, arguments and evidence to support a robust SMR mechanical handling safety case.
  3. Support to the Rolls-Royce SMR Generic Design Assessment to agreed project timescales.

Key Selection Criteria
Criteria 1 - Experience of design and substantiation of mechanical handling equipment to appropriate codes, standards, and regulations. Experience of producing outputs such as requirements documents/ technical specifications, statements of work, hand calculations, design reports.
Criteria 2 - Experience of supporting the development of a conventional and nuclear safety case including:

  • Hazard identification and fault schedule development.
  • Nuclear safety functional requirement definition and categorisation.
  • Nuclear classification of safety measures.

Criteria 3 - Experience of managing and collaborating with stakeholders within multi-discipline teams.
Criteria 4 - Experience of supporting selection and then collaborating with supply chain partners delivering sub- contracted work packages.
Criteria 5 - Experience of gated design lifecycle processes and presentation at technical reviews.
Pay and Benefits
We anticipate a paying salary of around �58,000 (negotiable DOE), a performance related bonus of up to 12.5%, an attractive pension scheme with 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. You will also receive a flexible benefits allowance of �2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package to suit your needs.

Each Rolls-Royce SMR power station will have the capacity to generate 470MW of low carbon energy, equivalent to more than 150 onshore wind turbines and enough to power a million homes. It will provide consistent baseload generation for at least 60 years, helping to support the roll out of renewable generation and overcome intermittency issues

  • Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
