Job overview
The Renal Centre at Hammersmith Hospital is the hub of the West London Renal Network and sits in the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The Centre brings together a highly skilled multi-professional team thus creating a centre of excellence in an area, which has the highest incidence of end stage renal failure in the UK.
The centre provides direct care to more than 3,000 patients across 10 satellite dialysis units, outpatients (including specialist nephrology clinics, transplant) at Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary's Hospital, peritoneal dialysis at Hammersmith Hospital and pre-dialysis clinics across West London. There are also 80 renal beds at Hammersmith Hospital, which includes a dedicated high dependency unit and three other dedicated renal wards.
The renal pharmacy team has a prominent role in the renal unit prominent role in the renal unit, providing clinical pharmacy services to dedicated renal wards, satellite dialysis units and renal clinics, including independent prescribing and medication review clinics. The pharmacy team is recognised as an expert source for drug advice, facilitating the efficient and cost effective use of medicine.

We have an exciting new band 6 Medicines Management Renal Pharmacy technician post. The post supports a range of service from ward based services to overview and management of outsourced homecare / remote dispensing services. Support dialysis pharmacy services across NWL.
As well as facilitating and supporting the efficient and cost effective use of medicines, you will provide a pharmacy service to ward and other clinical areas, participate in consultant ward rounds and take responsibility for managing staff, drug expenditure and training.
We would expect applicants to reach out to the current team to learn more in advance of applying. Though experience in renal is desired it is not essential.
Main duties of the job
To develop the Renal Medicines Management Technician role, working closely with the renal pharmacy team on the Hammersmith site, the renal wards and satellite areas.
To work collaboratively with all of the medicines management pharmacy technicians on site to review and evaluative services, and identify and promote best practice.
To support the continuing drive to improve medicines use and safety within the Trust.
Overview and management of the prescription and invoice management for renal homecare, remote dispensing, other outsourced services and supporting the dialysis pharmacy service.

Education/ qualifications
Essential criteria
Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (pharmacy technician)
Mandatory CPD portfolio up to date
Overview and management of the prescription and invoice management for renal homecare, remote dispensing, other outsourced services and supporting the dialysis pharmacy service.
Desirable criteria
Short courses relevant to practice, to include supervisory/management qualification
NVQ or equivalent assessor qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
Post qualification experience of working in a UK hospital; this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy
Experience of training and supervision of pharmacy staff
Experience working as a Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician in a busy clinical environment
Experience of research and audit work
Desirable criteria
Practical experience with an electronic in-patient prescribing system
Experience of training of nursing and/or medical staff
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential criteria
Able to analyse and interpret information relating to medicines and their uses
Be able to provide information and advice to distressed patients in a calm and empathetic manner
Ability to plan own workload and priorities to meet deadlines
Ability to identify the scope of a problem, consider options for solution, select solution and review outcomes
