Headquartered in New York with offices in Beijing, Brussels, Hong Kong, Houston, London, Los Angeles, Palo Alto, São Paulo, Tokyo and Washington, D.C., the Firm provides coordinated legal advice and transactional capability to clients around the globe.Description/Job SummaryThe Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting Finance management with the preparation of profitability analysis, headcount (FTE) reporting, client/matter modeling in relation to client budget requests and matter staffing and management, Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFA) and other ad hoc requests. This role will focus primarily on requests from the European and Asia offices but will also work closely with the US-located analytics team on all Firmwide initiatives. They will need to develop a working knowledge of the 3E billing system, our financial dashboards and our analytics tools (cube, Power BI). This individual will be required to collaborate across all levels of Firm personnel, including Partners, and various administrative departments, including different groups within Accounting.Responsibilities/DutiesAssist with detailed profitability analyses of the Europe and Asia groups, including monthly, quarterly and year-over-year comparisons, identifying trends and making recommendations for actionDevelop monthly profitability packages for the Europe and Asia group leaders, with focus on KPI’s such as hours, leverage and expensesCreate monthly and ad-hoc client/matter profitability analyses, including break-even analysesEnsure proper compilation of timekeeper cost rates and reconciliation across all Finance systemsUse financial analytics tools to create models to assist in building out pricing database to improve matter budgetingAssist with various Firmwide initiatives, including revenue projections, the partner promotion review process and the annual business planning processAssist in review of headcount (FTE) reporting to office managers to ensure proper codingBuild relationships with partner and business leaders within the Europe and Asia offices to ensure appropriate support of strategic initiativesWork closely with other groups within Accounting (Billing, Rates & Compliance) on analysis of pricing arrangements in RFP process, fee agreement approval review, etc. Assist with development and implementation of process improvementsAdheres to Firm policy and procedures, escalating issues when appropriateAssist with special projects and other duties as assignedRequired SkillsMinimum of five years of financial analysis experience in legal or related fieldDemonstrate flexibility and initiative with respect to handling multiple projects and shifting prioritiesAbility to work well independently as well as effectively within a Global teamAbility to effectively present information verbally and in writingBasic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisionProficiency in MS Excel and Word, with the ability to learn new software and operating systemsWorking knowledge of basic compliance and internal control requirementsPreferred SkillsExperience with 3E or other legal billing system preferredRequired EducationRequiredBachelor’s degree requiredPreferredDegree in Finance or Accounting preferred DetailsSalary and Benefits: CompetitiveEqual OpportunitiesSimpson Thacher is committed to ensuring that everyone can reach their full potential, irrespective of background, identity, or circumstance.
