Merseyside (Hybrid Working)

Senior Financial Accountant required to join a public sector organisation based in Merseyside on a full-time permanent basis. My client is looking for an ambitious and highly motivated individual who is an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join their dynamic and fast-moving finance function.

As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will report into the Head of Financial Accounting and lead in the preparation and production of the organisation's financial information, alongside the duties below;

Key responsibilities of the Senior Financial Accountant

  • Assist in ensuring all financial controls are reviewed and adhered to
  • Focus on identifying cost efficiencies with a view to maximising Operating Margin and preparing an associated business case.
  • Responsible for ESG reporting in relation to both the management and year end accounts.
  • Assist in ensuring all Corporation Tax returns are completed for inclusion in the year end accounts, and as supporting documentation for any gift aid payments, and submitted in line with HMRC deadlines.
  • Preparation of ad-hoc variance analysis requested from the organisation.
  • Ensure the month end timetable and deadlines are met whilst providing support to the wider finance department.
  • Lead on the full and timely reconciliation of the Group's balance sheets including reconciliation of all inter-company balances.
  • Assist in the development and subsequent production of Value for Money reporting and analysis against regulatory and internal metrics.
  • Support the preparation of the financial accounts and supporting schedules for all Group companies at year-end.
  • Assist in the management of the year end audit, including liaising with external auditors
  • Support the transactional team with regard to general ledger items (e.g. accruals/prepayments) and queries.
  • Provide training and development to the general ledger team.
  • Deputising for the Head of Financial Accounting as necessary

Required skills and experience of the Senior Financial Accountant

  • CCAB qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA) / finalist or actively working towards qualification.
  • Strong experience using financial ledger systems (Open Accounts desirable).
  • Experienced in working in the social housing sector.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • High level of organisational skills
  • High level of analytical skills
