These teams support the design, development, production, and maintenance of the Museum’s permanent, temporary, and touring exhibitions as part of the visitor experience.The engineering team has fully equipped workshops, including Lathes, Mills, Welding shop, a full range of workshop tooling, as well as CNC Router, 3D design software and 3D printers.Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Engineering Technician will take part in all aspects of the team’s engineering activities, as well as support the manager to run the workshops and coordinate team activity in projects and business as usual.About youCompleted a recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship with C&G accreditation or equivalent. Competent in written English, Maths.Experience in the production and or interpretation of engineering drawings.Experience in the setting and operation of lathes and milling machines to fine tolerances.Experience in bench fitting.Experience in the use of general workshop equipment including pillar drills, grinders, polishers and bending machines.Experience in working of a variety of materials using the equipment above for example: Nylons, plastics, mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass.Ability to work in a wide range of conditions and environments performing tasks with the manual dexterity relevant to the job description. For example, working at heights and working in a building site environment.Experience in the following areas: gas, arc and TIG welding;The use of CAD packages; electro-mechanical devices and control systems, is an advantage.Experience of being the Engineering representative on a multi-disciplinary project team to develop and provide engineering solutions.Experience creating health and safety documentation and ensuring statutory compliance for example: Machine logs, risk assessments, method statements, inspection schedules and reports.Thriving at the Museum: the way we workWe are proud to work at the Museum and have identified the qualities we all need to embody to reach our shared ambition.
