To help us with this, we are now looking for a talented Senior Engineering Manager to join our tight-knit team in this exciting next phase of our journey Where you’ll fit into the teamYou will lead two of our product squads, each with about four engineers (backend and frontend), a dedicated product manager and a product designer. You will also be supported by your QA partner, who oversees both squads and ensures everything we do meets the quality bar our customers used to love.Each team has a specific set of domain ownerships that clearly define organisational responsibilities. In addition to your immediate squads, you will report directly to the Head of Engineering to ensure you are always up to speed with our business strategy and strongly influence our engineering trajectory.What you can expect from the roleAt Ember, things can sometimes move fast and change quickly, but here are a few examples of what you can expect to be working on. First 30 Days: You’ve integrated into the team, understanding and participating in key ceremonies, and met with engineers and peers. You’re on top of the team’s milestones and critical production issues, understanding how managers, designers, and tech leads shape our product roadmap. You’ve connected with Ember’s leadership, aligning your team’s efforts with the company’s goals, and have started grasping our management and assessment processes.First 60 Days: You’re now familiar with our culture and values, identifying and addressing team bottlenecks. You’ve built strong relationships with product and design teams and joined a product discovery workshop. You’ve proposed solutions to improve squad processes, started regular 1:1s, and become familiar with our tech stack. Your feedback has been valuable in architectural and code review sessions.First 90 Days: You’ve developed personalised career plans with direct reports and significantly contributed to technical discussions. Your actions have positively impacted key deliverables, enhancing team productivity and technical standards. You’ve provided meaningful feedback, aligned team objectives with business goals, identified risks, contributed to hiring, upheld engineering quality, and fostered a culture of excellence. You’ve also led initiatives to monitor product performance post-launch and supported a positive workplace culture.First 6 Months: You’ve encouraged engineers to take on broader projects and participated in discussions to advance our technology practices. You’ve championed reliability and maintainability, extended your influence beyond your immediate team by collaborating with other departments and engage with top-level stakeholders on cross-functional projects.First Year: You’ve become a pivotal cultural figure, successfully managing performance reviews, aiding in promoting top engineers, and establishing yourself as a reliable leader. You’ve assisted colleagues in skill development, engaged in mentoring, led high-impact projects, and set sights on future goals and challenges at Ember.Experience and skills that are important for the roleTechnical Expertise: Understanding software development lifecycle, debugging techniques, and database management.Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively. This includes analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and creativity in finding solutions.Communication Skills and Emotional Intelligence: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, other departments, and leadership. Patience, empathy, and the ability to handle stressful situations gracefully, especially when dealing with complex problems.Team Collaboration and Ownership: Ability to work well in a team environment, taking responsibility for troubleshooting and addressing technical issues promptly with teams as needed, contributing to a collaborative work culture. Willingness to share knowledge and help colleagues.Adaptability and Learning: Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies. Staying updated with industry trends and best practices.Attention to Detail: Precision and attention to detail in diagnosing problems and implementing solutions.People management: Experience leading more than 10 engineers within the same or multiple teams, both on the front end and back end.
