About the Role
Intertek Electrical is currently seeking a Senior Test Engineer to be based in Milton Keynes. This is a crucial and exciting opportunity as Intertek aims to expand its engineering team to meet market demands. The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct electrical safety evaluations for Intertek's global client base. As a part of the Intertek Electrical UK team, the senior test engineer will collaborate closely with clients to assess their products and documentation to ensure compliance with specific requirements of relevant test standards. Additionally, the role will involve cross-departmental collaboration within the UK Electrical team, offering technical support to operations, sales, and marketing.
Required Skills and Experience
Essential:
Relevant Electrical/Electronic formal qualifications or degree
Good IT skills, experience with Excel, Word, and data retention systems
Experience working in accordance with a Quality Management System
Attention to detail and ability to navigate/interpret ambiguity of standards
Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently
Strong lab/test/data analysis/troubleshooting/reporting skills
Effective communication with customers and team members
Desirable:
Background in product safety testing, grid code, inverters, EV charging, BESS, energy storage
Experience and knowledge in multiple electrical safety standards (e.g. IEC/EN 50549/UL 1741 SA/IEEE 1547/60335/62368/60730)
Knowledge and experience of certification schemes, processes, and country requirements
Experience in safety-critical function design/electrical product development/grid compliance/high voltage
Experience of generating test reports for customers and certification purposes
Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory
Experience with Yokogawa or other data acquisition and analyzer tools, AC/DC simulators, RLC load bank, and communication interfaces
About the Opportunity
Key Activities:
Assessing training needs of technical staff and developing new training programs
Providing ongoing support and guidance on technical issues, procedures, and standards interpretations
Quoting for a wide range of standards and complex projects and products
Researching new standards, technologies, and trends in standards
Supporting accreditation activities such as audit follow-up and corrective actions
Managing assigned projects within Intertek guidelines
Reviewing and signing off other engineers' projects and test reports
Training the engineering team
Providing technical support for internal and external audits
Completing and reviewing Intertek's evaluation test reports within set timescales
Attending customer calls and meetings
