Senior Data and Digital Project Engineer
Salary: £70,000 - £75,000
Hybrid working - 3 days working remotely, 2 days in the office per week (Thame, Oxfordshire)
Summary: As a Senior Data and Digital Project Engineer in the Platforms & Infrastructure team (P&I), you will be responsible for helping to deliver our end-to-end enterprise IT strategy and vision. The primary purpose of your role will be to contribute towards planning, design, implementation, and transitioning of technology projects into ongoing operations and support, ensuring they meet agreed availability and performance targets and are maintained within approved budgets and timelines. Working in partnership with a mix of internal resources and third-party suppliers across architecture, engineering, delivery, and projects, you will be one of the key technical resources in delivering projects and change initiatives across P&I. You will be working on projects that cover our Infrastructure, Data, and Digital Operational environments both in the cloud and on-premise.
What you’ll be doing:
Contributing towards the Platform & Infrastructure team strategy which is aligned with the wider IT and business strategies through successful project delivery.
Work with our project managers, architects, engineers, and third-party suppliers to plan, design, build, and deliver robust project plans, and contribute towards delivering those subsequent plans with your colleagues, on time and within budget.
You will be working hands-on with our cloud infrastructure environments, such as Azure, AWS, and Google as well as with our private Data Centre partners and associated partners.
Owning and delivering activities on projects you are assigned, ensuring all solutions provide the required level of availability, performance, and security throughout the project and into ongoing operations.
Help ensure all P&I services are managed and supported according to industry/vendor best practice, following defined processes and procedures and to meet agreed availability and performance KPIs as part of project implementations.
Ensuring (in conjunction with Information Security) that all infrastructure components are delivered to the appropriate level of risk with respect to security patches, software/firmware revision levels, and supplier supported versions.
Proactively recommending and suggesting service improvements in the areas of reliability, performance, availability, security, supportability, or cost throughout the projects and for future projects\roadmaps.
Working closely with other IT Operations and IT Delivery teams to ensure there is a coordinated approach to project delivery alongside the project managers, ensuring clear handovers to ongoing operational teams.
Take ownership and be responsible for meeting agreed project deadlines and activities.
Contribute and assist the support teams to help resolve any major Incidents, as and when required, outside of project work.
What we’ll expect from you:
Currently certified in cloud platforms\technologies or hold a minimum of 5 years technical experience in cloud subscription environments.
Hold a minimum of 5 years Windows servers & Linux server management experience operating infrastructure, digital, and data applications.
Evidential experience of previous project experience working within the digital world (e.g Website hosting and associated services); Data environments (CI\CD pipelines) and Infrastructure (Network & server builds).
Have a firm Infrastructure understanding of enterprise network architectures including LAN, WAN, VPN, Routing and Switching and firewalling skills.
Strong digital knowledge and working experience of technologies such as Akamai WAF, GitHub, Apache, Bash, KSH, Nginx, PHP.
Strong Data experience working with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, PowerBI, Purview and Azure Blueprints\ARM templates.
Ability to switch between multiple projects, across a variety of digital, data, and Infrastructure based projects.
An understanding of enterprise best practice infrastructure management with a desire to include the use of automation/orchestration, telemetry, DR, monitoring and logging to improve services.
Working knowledge of current and future information security threats and the best way to prevent them.
Be passionate about assisting direct team, and non-direct team members in growing their technical skill set, through one-on-one training and documentation and shift-left activities to upskill all technical support teams.
Someone who has the ability to resolve issues quickly when identified across multiple technology platforms.
High levels of energy, drive, and resilience, with the flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strong interpersonal skills with an inherent ability to effectively communicate with and influence others, up to a senior level both inside and outside of IT.
Self-motivated to want to continuously improve stability, security, and customer satisfaction.
Willingness to work in hours and outside of hours, when required, to ensure minimal IT impact to business operations.
