We have an exciting new position available as a
Senior Aero Concept Designer / Senior Surface Designer
This is a highly valued role in helping shape and define the shape of the F1 car. You will be right at the heart of the design process, collaborating closely with aerodynamicists, model designers and full-size car designers to create high quality, high performance surfaces.
Key operational duties:
As part of the surfacing team, this will involve working within one of the development groups, providing support in all aspects of the concept surfacing function.
Working closely with aerodynamicists to understand the definition and requirements of all new surfaces, including modelling and construction approach.
Creating high quality surface geometry for both CFD Wind Tunnel and Full size Release.
Liaison with the Aerodynamicists, Model Designers / FS to ensure efficient implementation of aerodynamic projects including providing guidance as to best practices to others within the aero team to ensure standards are met.
This is a highly creative role relying on a high level of understanding of surfacing and parametric modelling techniques. Models must also be of the highest quality where an understanding of surface quality, attention to detail and model layout + robustness are key.
A detailed understanding of the regulations is required to ensure all surfaces are fit for purpose and in-line with FIA legality.
should aim to support the Leads in setting the right tone for the department. Mentoring the more junior members of the group is seen as a fundamental part of the job.
Involvement in wider audience discussion and surfacing meetings / forums should be encouraged to help with learning / exchange of ideas across the department.
Involvement in supporting the Leads in helping push forward methodology and model improvements within their groups.
Ideal credentials:
High level of CAD literacy. Experience with NX is preferred, although Catia V5 also considered. Successful candidate will receive support from experienced surfacers to improve their capabilities and ensure output is fit for purpose.
Highly proactive exceptional team player and ability to work effectively under pressure within the group.
High level of creativity coupled with an exceptional attention to detail is essential.
Ability to manage workload and prioritise in-line with fast paced nature of F1 environment.
Ability to work with an open and flexible approach with a high degree of reactivity in handling changes in priorities / direction.
Demonstrate fantastic communication skills both verbally and graphically to help communicate throughout the design process.
A good level of understanding of Microsoft Office Products.
The successful candidate(s) will have completed appropriate engineering training, such as an apprenticeship, HNC, HND or degree in a relevant discipline (Motorsport / Aero / Engineering / Product / Industrial Design).
Previous F1 experience / understanding of the nature of the business and interest in F1 is required.
