Job summaryWe are looking to appoint a Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist in Gender Healthcare to join the West of England Gender Identity Clinic based at The Laurels in Exeter. This is a new substantive post following substantial investment in the clinic and will form part of a new Clinical Nurse Specialist Team.The West of England Specialist Gender Identity Clinic is a centre of excellence for the provision of advice and treatment for gender dysphoria for people aged 18 and older. We accept referrals from across the country and provide personalised care and treatment plans to meet our patients individual needs.Our multi-disciplinary team works with people who have a wide variety of needs related to their gender identity. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and have a flexible approach to service delivery. We are looking for a team player who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary setting with highly experienced and skilled staff. You must also be capable of leading the CNS team as well as contributing at senior level to development of our services.Main duties of the jobTo provide a defined level of specialist assessment and access to interventions for transgender patients.To be a Transgender Healthcare Professional and work as part of the service to support patients in line with the NHS England national service specification. The role requires the post holder to be a named professional for patients and undertake both assessment and follow-up responsibilities for an identified case load of transgender and non-binary patients.The role involves monitoring gender affirming hormones for trans male, trans female and non-binary patients.The post holder will be part of the team providing a service to patients and, on occasions their families, including direct and indirect clinical work that supports the Medical Lead and Service Manager in developing the service. To demonstrate active clinical and managerial leadership skills within the team, providing education and supervision, where required, to junior team members and other professionals.Experienced registered nurse (Mental Health/Learning Disabilities or General), with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and NMP qualification.The role requires a clinician with specialist skills to assess patients needs analyse and formulate treatment plans within a multi-disciplinary framework.The post holder works autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures.About usAbout Devon Partnership TrustWe provide mental health, learning disability and neurodiversity services, as well as a range of specialist & secure services for the wider south west region & nationally. Professional qualification (General/Mental Health/Learning Disability) to degree level or equivalent. Non-Medical Prescriber. Maintains current registration with NMC. Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery.
Desirable
Relevant Masters degree or working towards. Demonstrate continued professional development to maintain professional registration. Training in transgender healthcare. Training in gender diversity.
ExperienceEssential
Experience of individual patient case management responsibility. Substantial experience of MDT working. Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding. Line management of staff.
Desirable
Experience of clinical working with transgender and non-binary patients.
KnowledgeEssential
Knowledge of the Interface of psychological and physical aspects of healthcare. Experience of prescribing and/or supervising the prescription of gender affirming medical treatment.
Desirable
Knowledge of the Trusts Non-Medical prescribing policy and local procedure. Knowledge of the legal, social, and societal aspects of gender diversity
