Fixed Term, Full Time

Up to £36,086 per annum

Location: Chelmsford

The Opportunity

Join the Circular Economy and Strategy Team in our mission to transform Essex into a Safer, Greener, and Healthier County. We're dedicated to minimising the impact on the environment by supporting residents to reduce waste and increase the amounts recycled, and by working with others to deliver a more circular economy.

As Senior Behaviour Change Officer, you will be a key member of our team, responsible for developing, delivering and evaluating campaigns and interventions using insight and behavioural science techniques. Your role is on the front line of waste prevention, recycling and environmental activities, delivering direct communications and interventions to the public.

We are seeking a passionate individual to join our team who will champion the delivery of the Waste Reduction Behaviour Change programme ensuring ambitious waste reduction and increased recycling goals are met through lasting behaviour change.

What will you be doing?

As Senior Behaviour Change Officer, you will be responsible for managing and developing audiences for a variety of channels including social media, website, and electronic newsletter through the Love Essex brand.

Working in a project environment and applying behavioural science and insight, you will lead design and implementation of interventions and campaigns that will deliver sustained behaviour change.

The Senior Officer will evidence the impact of activities, capture learning and prepare replicable models and toolkits. You will play a significant role in gaining and maintaining the co-operation of internal and external stakeholders and partners.

The Experience You Will Bring

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience.
  • Advanced skills in written and oral communication. Confident in engaging with a broad variety of stakeholders at different levels via a range of channels.
  • Ability to work creatively and effectively and including the ability to manage a range of complex situations and issues; very organised with good attention to detail and able to work on initiative.
  • Experience of working with brand guidelines when creating communications materials. Knowledge of report writing and delivery.
  • Evidence of experience of planning events, including engaging stakeholders, logistics and leading events on the day.
  • Knowledge in communications, research and data analysis to support design, development and evaluation of campaigns and initiatives.

Desirable :

  • Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
  • Experience of working in a political environment, skills in understanding and responding to different perspectives and taking a cross organisational and cross-partner perspective.
  • A broad interest and understanding of waste management, environmental issues and wider circular
  • economy issues.
