What you will do (Main Duties and Responsibilities)• Lead a team of art handling technicians to complete storage project KPIs and support Tate’s medium-term Storage Programme, including artwork re-packing and moves, storage consolidation, shuttle runs, storage facilities implementation• Provide art handling expertise in all technical aspects for Storage Project and medium-term Storage Programme, such as suggesting technical solutions in movements of large quantity and complex artworks, advising Senior Manager on potential risk, efficient approach and methodology, resources needed and achievable timescale• Support daily operation needs in storage areas, including storage space organisation, maximising efficient use of operation areas, to deliver Tate’s programmes• Be proactive to complete shuttles between sites, locating and planning essential operation space in stores, organising existing storage space to maximise storage capacity• Work closely and collaborate with Art Handling team, Registrars, Conservators and Conservation Technicians, Library and Archive team to achieve Storage Project KPIs and deliver Tate’s programme in a timely way• Line manage a team of Art Handling Technicians, supervise and develop a versatile and skilled team, identify challenges and opportunities to inspire and motivate technicians within the scope of storage project• Lead on writing, implementation of risk assessments and method statements to ensure working practices in compliance with all Health and Safety regulations• Lead on training needs for Art Handling Technician in Storage Project, lead formal and informal training sessions on Art Handling techniques and procedures. Ensure a training programme is in place to keep all staff up-to-date with mandatory, accredited and specialist training• Support Storage Manager to work with Estate to carry out essential building maintenance, annual check-ups of storage facilities, maintain and repair equipment, and regular storage housekeepingWhat you will bring to the team• A high level of expertise and significant experience in handling, packing, moving a large quantity and variety of complex artworks• Experience working in art storage environment, understand daily operations and needs in storage areas• Excellent interpersonal skills and a diplomatic manner; ability to collaborate with different stakeholders in a complex team, and both internally and externally, to delivery project goals; confident to communicate at all levels• Can-do attitude; proactive to suggest alternatives and technical solutions to overcome challenges and difficulties to achieve project KPIs• Experience in advising Senior manager to address technical issues in early planning stage• Demonstrable line management experience of a team of technicians• Knowledge and experience with collection management and documentation process• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of current H&S legislation and ensure implementation and compliance are followed at all time• Proven ability to undertake physical work with collections and to work at height• Previous experience of working with specialist equipment including mobile elevating working platform, slinging, forklifts, gantry• Willingness to work flexibly between Tate’s storage locations and work out of hours when required• Experience of creating a working environment that encourages equality, diversity and inclusion, and ability to maintain an inclusive and respectful working atmosphere within a team• Interest in and commitment to the work of TateNational Museum Directors' Council, Tate Britain, Millbank, London SW1P 4RG.
