Job Description
This position aims to bolster Sage by imbedding effective, pragmatic, sustainable, and compliant internal financial control frameworks. The role entails collaborating with Finance and relevant stakeholders from various departments to devise and implement financial controls. Additionally, it involves championing the enhancement of finance processes and controls, leveraging automation, simplification, and standardisation to drive continuous improvement.#LI-CR2
Key Responsibilities
Key accountabilities and decision ownership:• Assist the Director of Finance and Control in implementing and overseeing a robust, auditable internal control framework.• Support the internal control project within the finance department, including tracking workstream status against key milestones, reporting on and tracking key risks, issues, and actions.• Prepare 'top-down' risk assessments and scoping activities.• Create internal control manuals, policy documentation, and best practice materials for an educational program aimed at control owners and operators.• Execute risk and control activities, including process reviews (flowcharts/process mapping), risk identification, identifying control gaps or improvements, designing updated controls, documenting control descriptions, and creating overall Risk and Control Matrices (RACMs).• Identify opportunities for process and control automation.• Support and monitor the implementation and integration of internal controls and finance policies across the Finance function and other departments.• Deliver communication and internal control training to colleagues in Finance, IT, and other cross-functional areas.• Track, monitor, and resolve control issues, including problem-solving and proposing practical solutions, including those raised through the company's Governance, Risk, and Compliance tool (GRC).• Support special projects in the Financial Control realm, such as addressing internal/external audit findings, integrating internal controls during finance transformation or IT projects affecting finance, and incorporating internal controls post M&A activities.• Prepare regular status reports on finance controls, including control effectiveness and the status of issue remediation.• Support the preparation of reports for the Audit Committee, senior management stakeholders, and internal governance forums.Skills, know-how and experience:Must have:• Qualified accountant with 1-2 years post-qualification experience (PQE).• Prior experience in internal financial control within multinational organizations, including exposure to SOX compliance gained from roles such as external audit, internal audit, industry finance, or consulting. This experience should encompass:• Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements, internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO), and auditing standards/requirements.• Hands-on experience with process walkthroughs (including flowcharting/maps), risk assessment, evaluating control design and implementation, and conducting control testing.• Proactive self-starter exhibiting a robust and collaborative work ethic.• Proficiency in networking, interpersonal skills, and effective written and verbal communication.• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and thrive under tight deadlines, all while maintaining a keen attention to detail.• Exceptional problem-solving capabilities.• Openness to International travel as required (circa 10% of the time).Preferred:• Proficiency in accounting with a solid grasp of financial accounting and reporting according to IFRS.• Prior involvement in an internal financial control framework implementation project, either within a professional services capacity or an in-house role.• Experience with IT controls, encompassing IT process-level controls such as configuration controls, interfaces, system reports, and/or General IT controls.Dig deeper about who we are:Who is Sage: Life at Sage: Our Values & Behaviors: How we make a difference: Sage Business Cloud - SaaS for Every Business: Your benefitsBenefits video – • Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage• Work away scheme for up to 10 weeks a year• On-going training and professional development• Paid 5 days yearly to volunteer through our Sage Foundation• Flexible work patterns and hybrid working
