The School and Role

This 'Good' SEND Alternative Provision, based in Newcastle, supports children and young people aged 11-16 and is looking to appoint a passionate SEND Science Teacher to teach Key Stage 3 and 4 classes on a full-time basis. Working in this Secondary SEND Alternative Provision as part of an established team, the desired SEND Science Teacher will be working on a small class sized basis with pupils with SEND complex needs including Autism, Learning Disabilities and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). This full time SEND Science Teacher role is long term from May ongoing with the possibility of a permanent vacancy for the right person.

The desired SEND Science Teacher must have experience of working within a Science department and be comfortable teaching Science at Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4). The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and teaching engaging Science lessons to pupils in KS3 and KS4. Teachers of all Science specialism will be considered for this post. Although schemes of work are in place, the successful teacher will be given autonomy to amend lesson plans for the benefit of pupils. The desired Science Teacher will have previous experience of teaching GCSE Science in line with exam boards such as AQA and BTEC.

The aim of the school is to work with pupils experiencing barriers to learning related to SEMH and other needs so that they take pride in learning, communicate effectively and develop pro-social and independent skills with the goal of becoming responsible, regulated and respectful, ready for the workplace. Students have experienced rejection and failure before joining us and our first essential work is to reach out, build trust and rapport and then develop positive relationships as a foundation to offer support, reassurance and challenge.
