Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with our Special Educational Needs Coordinator and classroom teachers to provide tailored support to students with diverse learning needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

Assisting students with their academic tasks, adapting materials and activities to suit individual abilities.

Providing one-on-one or small group support to students with special needs, helping them to achieve their learning goals.

Implementing individualised education plans and behaviour management strategies in collaboration with the SENCO and teaching staff.

Promoting social inclusion and fostering positive relationships among students, encouraging empathy, and understanding.

Supporting students during transitions between activities and classrooms, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.

Collaborating with colleagues and external professionals, such as speech therapists or occupational therapists, to provide holistic support to students.

Requirements:

Previous experience working with children with special educational needs.

A compassionate and patient demeanour, with a genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of all students.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Relevant qualifications or training in special education or related fields (CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools).

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, always adhering to school policies and procedures.
