Maths/STEM Teacher Required at a Secondary SEN School in Stoke-On-Trent

Location: Bucknall, Stoke on Trent
Salary: £30,000 - £41,333 (M1 - M6)
Hours: 40 hours per week, Term time only

This Academy Group is a forward-thinking provider of education and care for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. We are searching for a dedicated and enthusiastic Maths/STEM teacher to join their Secondary Department (Key Stage 3-5) at their School in Stoke on Trent. This school, rated 'Outstanding,' caters to young people aged 6-19 with complex needs, primarily related to Autism and Communication difficulties. The students thrive in a supportive and caring environment where behaviour is exemplary.

About the Role:

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality, challenging, and differentiated educational activities.
  • Teach a broad and balanced curriculum to help students achieve their full potential.
  • Plan and deliver lessons in line with DFE guidance and school policies.
  • Oversee the daily running of the class and other relevant school functions.
  • Supervise and guide Teaching Assistants and Higher Level Teaching Assistants.
  • Implement school policies and practices, including safeguarding and equality of opportunity.
  • Monitor the health, well-being, and personal care of pupils, liaising with care/medical/behavioural support teams as needed.

The head is seeking someone passionate and supportive, dedicated to ensuring every child progresses academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the curriculum according to the schemes of work.
  • Adapt lessons to engage students and ensure achievement, particularly in line with best autism practices.
  • Plan stimulating, relevant, and well-structured lessons for a diverse range of abilities and communication needs.
  • Collaborate with the Head Teacher and leadership team to achieve the school's vision, ethos, aims, and objectives.
  • Foster effective teaching and support, ensuring successful learning and achievement.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and review classroom practice, implementing strategies to address under-performance.
  • Assist in the recruitment and induction of new staff.
  • Partner with school staff, parents, carers, and external agencies to support students' academic, spiritual, moral, social, emotional, and cultural well-being.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Qualified Teacher status
  • In-depth knowledge of the curriculum and its adaptation for pupils with SEN
  • Experience working with young people with ASD
  • Understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Ability to build nurturing relationships with young people
  • Experience managing diverse learning approaches, including support for students with anxiety
  • Knowledge of strategies and visual teaching methods for engaging reluctant learners
  • Flexible, innovative approach with a high level of creativity
