Role Purpose:
The SEMH Class Teacher at this outstanding SEMH school is responsible for teaching pupils within the school, implementing differentiated curriculum plans tailored to students' special educational needs, and supervising classroom assistants. The role involves maintaining discipline, preparing schemes of work, contributing to school-wide initiatives, and promoting equal opportunities. Additionally, the Class Teacher collaborates with external agencies and participates in the ongoing development of the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Teach pupils according to their special educational needs, planning differentiated curriculum.
  • Supervise classroom assistants and oversee the use of teaching materials.
  • Maintain discipline and prepare schemes of work for designated teaching groups.
  • Contribute to the development of academic, vocational, and behavioural aspects of the curriculum.
  • Promote equal opportunities and literacy, numeracy, ICT, and PSHE across the curriculum.
  • Monitor pupil progress, assess achievement, and communicate with parents and external agencies.
  • Attend meetings, participate in case conferences, and maintain records as required.

Additional Duties:


  • Deliver support for Learning curriculum.
  • Lead and coordinate curriculum development in designated subject areas.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of pupils.
  • Liaise with staff in each departments and support individual pupil needs.

Required Qualifications and Skills:


  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience working with children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health difficulties.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Other Considerations:


  • This role involves working in an intense environment with challenging situations.
  • Subject to enhanced DBS check and satisfactory health clearance.
