Job title: Sector Project Manager

Reports to: Business Unit Manager

Direct reports: Engineers circa 15 people

Location: Portsmouth Office (Waterlooville)

Summary

Leading and organising a team of Project Manager(s) and engineers to successfully execute control system projects within specified timelines, budget constraints and quality standards for our customers. Fostering an empowered and cohesive team atmosphere. Aligning and implementing the team's strategy with the Business Unit's Shared Strategic Plan (SSP).

Key objectives

  • Foster a motivating and secure environment for the team of people within your sector, ensuring they work safely, efficiently, and effectively while aligning with the interests and culture of the Business Unit.
  • Manage the order bank of your team and ensure that all submitted tenders are professionally crafted, undergo risk assessment, and maintain exceptional quality.
  • Ensure that your team delivers projects within budget and meets customer requirements, aiming for flawless 10/10 customer feedback.
  • Conduct all review/performance meetings for the Engineers within your sector, in accordance with the Company's HR policies and procedures.

Team

  • Lead and support the welfare of their team, resolving conflict when required.
  • Line management responsibility for the Engineers within their team. Including production and review of training plans, probation reviews, performance appraisal, 1-2-1 meetings, and dealing with disciplinary matters.
  • Direct involvement in the recruitment of new engineers to the team following the internal Business Unit recruitment processes.
  • Ensure all of their team, including subcontractors, promote a health, safety, and environmental conscious culture.
  • Represent the interests of the sector within the Business Unit.
  • Ensure policies, and procedures are always adhered to by the team.
  • Effectively overseeing the team absences to ensure constant and sufficient coverage.
  • Work as part of the BU Team to support continued development and smooth operation of the BU.
  • Assist with providing cover for the Business Unit Manager in times of absences.
  • Engage with BU communications and requests, providing responses in a timely manner.

Specialism

  • Responsible for developing the customer base within their sector.
  • Perform the role of the lead advisor to the business within their sector speciality.
  • Review and management of relevant internal standards and procedures, ensuring their correct and efficient use within the business.
  • Monitoring of national and international standards to ensure that business standards and procedures remain current.
  • Ensure successful interaction between the different Sector Project Managers and teams to ensure that the goals of the business unit are met.
  • Coordination of resource within the team to maintain the required level of support for the Project Managers.
  • Resolution of issues of work priority.

General

  • Contribute to the sales activity of the business by preparing and reviewing quotations, managing nominated customer accounts, and taking part in business development activities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for customers and suppliers, establishing and sustaining positive, ongoing professional working relationships, while effectively managing expectations for customers or leveraging expertise from suppliers.
  • Identify gaps between customers current systems and their future needs.
  • Review of quotations and project designs whilst under development.
  • Delivery of projects on time, in budget and to the agreed specifications through task and engineering process management relating to themselves and the members of their sector team(s).
  • Leading the drive in the sector to improve SHEQ Systems and Standards, ensuring that the operation is consistent in its approach.
  • Ensure all control systems are designed and tested in accordance with agreed specifications, applicable standards, and legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness by examining, negotiating, and overseeing contracts with both customers and subcontractors.
  • Review and reflect on project delivery to identify areas of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with and actively participate in the success and evolution of systems and operational practices within the Business Unit leadership team.
  • Represent the Company confidently and professionally.
  • Contribute to future planning by aiding the BU Manager in the development and execution of the budget and Shared Strategic Plan (SSP) and success planning (ECHOS).
  • Carry out other duties as required and appropriate to the role.

Person specification

Knowledge

  • High levels of experience in system integration.
  • High level of understanding of the full project life cycle, with demonstrable experience.
  • Demonstrate commercial experience gained to the relevant market sectors and technologies.
  • You must have experience of delivering PLC/SCADA projects in the market sector.
  • Experience and knowledge in carrying out site surveys to understand the project requirements and to produce accurate quotations.
  • Understanding of when to utilise the support of colleagues and suppliers to support quoting activities.
  • You must be proficient in subcontract management.

  • You must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality, while working to demanding deadlines.
  • You must have a basic understanding of business finance.
  • Ability to develop and maintain great relationships with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Willingness to undertake further professional qualifications.
