Seasonal Grounds Maintenance

The Seasonal Groundskeeper assists the Head Gardener and Grounds Foreman to maintain garden beds and assist grounds crew at the Gardens of Gethsemani to provide a pleasant outdoor environment that is attractive, orderly, and reverent. ResponsibilitiesUnder the day to day guidance of the Head Gardener and Foreman, the responsibilities include: Weeding/deadheading/debris removal/watering of beds;Adding mulch and/or dirt to beds;Lawn cutting and trimming;Using machinery such as lawn mowers, weed and hedge trimmers, small hand tools; Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment;Assisting visitors as necessary in a caring manner; Assistance with outreach events such as Open Houses and Holy Souls events;Assist Head Gardener and Grounds Foreman as required and directed.Desired Skills and ExperienceKnowledge of the Catholic Church and the Catholic burial tradition would be an asset; A high school graduation or at a minimum must have completed Grade 10; Experience in operating small machinery such as mowers and trimmers would be an asset;The ability to meet the physical demands of the job; Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy and diplomacy; A valid BC driver’s license (preferred); Previous experience in landscaping would be an asset.Conditions of Employment:Willingness to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop; Understanding of and adherence to the Personnel Policy and Safe Environment Code of Conduct.Successful Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search required prior to start of employment.Normal Business hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
