Job DescriptionOur company has a rapidly growing interdisciplinary team of scientists in London and exciting plans to expand our London presence, initially at the Francis Crick Institute as part of our ‘Skylab’ expansion in 2024, and from 2027 in our new ‘state of art’ and fully integrated Research and Discovery Center at the hub of London’s knowledge Quarter, which will be home to approximately 180 scientists alongside other colleagues in discovery research, clinical, regulatory and business roles, including marketing, finance and administration.Our teams combine leading drug discovery capabilities and world-class R&D with the purpose of turning breakthrough science into life-changing medicines through improving our understanding of how our potential new therapies and medicines work at a cellular and molecular level in the patients we serve.Our London Discovery Centre are seeking a passionate and driven candidate to join our Neuroscience team based at the London Bioscience Innovation Centre (LBIC) in St. Pancras, London. The candidate for this Scientist position will contribute to cutting-edge discovery biology research investigating age-related neurodegeneration with a focus on Oxidative and ER Stress.You will join a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary research team.You will collaborate and interact with scientists across groups within our company, who have extensive experience in neurodegeneration, cellular biology, in vitro pharmacology, chemistry, and data science.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Perform in vitro experiments to investigate oxidative stress and ER stress mechanisms and pathways to support the development of early potential drug candidatesContribute to the design and implementation of novel disease-relevant in vitro models to evaluate the impact of oxidative and ER stress on cellular and molecular functionsKeep up to date with advancements in the field of oxidative and ER stress research and apply relevant knowledge to enhance experimental approachesCollaborating with members from other functional areas, including medicinal chemistry, in vivo and in vitro pharmacology, imaging, genetics, and translational sciences to drive progressTimely write-up of reports and dataOral and written communication of data in a clear and concise manner to the appropriate teams and stakeholdersEducation & Experience Minimum Requirements:BSc or MSc, in a life sciences discipline (Neuroscience, Biochemistry, or related discipline) with pharmaceutical industrial experienceRequired Experience and Skills:Experience in cell culture techniques and working with primary cells, cell lines, and/or iPSCsExperience in molecular biology and microscopy/cellular imaging techniquesExcellent attention to detail in experimental design and data analysisStrong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsAbility to thrive within a matrixed organization and collaborate with cross-functional teamsExperience in any of the following would be advantageous:Scientific understanding of mechanisms of mechanisms of neurodegeneration including oxidative stress or ER stressAn understanding of in vitro models of oxidative & ER stress, including assays for ROS measurement, antioxidant assays and/or cellular stress assaysCellular and molecular biology techniquesCell imaging and microscopy including high content imagingKnowledge of drug discovery and assay developmentExposure to high throughput instrumentation, including plate readers and liquid handling instrumentationClosing date for applications: 7th May 2024Current Employees apply HERECurrent Contingent Workers apply HERESearch Firm Representatives Please Read CarefullyMerck & Co., Inc., Rahway, NJ, USA, also known as Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC, Rahway, NJ, USA, does not accept unsolicited assistance from search firms for employment opportunities.
