Governorsdon’tget involved with the day to day running of a school, insteadsupportingand challenging the school’s leadership team to drive school improvement. They champion the work the school does.Our governors come from our local community and in their role they:get to know the school, including visiting the school occasionally during school hours and in agreement with the headteacher, and gaining a good understanding of the school’s strengths andweaknessesattend induction training and regular relevant training and developmenteventsattend meetings (full governing board meetings and committee meetings) and read all the papers before themeetingact in the best interests of all the pupils of the schoolbehave in a professional manner, as set down in the governing board’s code of conduct, including acting in strictconfidenceBeing a school governor is a commitment and aresponsibility, butoffers you the chance to see first-hand the impact you can make in improving education for children in your community.This role may be particularly of interest if you have skills in finance or a legalbackgroundbut we invite applications from anyone who is interested in helping the school be the best it can be – having a diverse group of people on the governing body is vital to ensure that all viewpoints of stakeholders are taken.Anyone aged over 18 can be a governor and you do not need to be a parent.All governors willbe requiredto undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.There is no requirement for you tohave an understanding ofthe education system, just the desire to support school, education, and have time to contribute to our local community.Ifit’ssomething you might be interestedinwe hopeyou’llapply.
