School Cook

Base Location: Herdley Bank School, Haltwhistle, Cumbria

Contract: Full Time, Term Time only

Salary: £19,643.64/£11.44 ph - pro rata salary (£22,400 FTE)

Hours: 8.30am - 4pm

About Us

North Lakes Children's Services is a well-established local provider of therapeutic residential care and education for boys aged 6-18. We improve the resilience, self-esteem and abilities of all the young people we work with.

We are currently seeking an experienced Cook to join our friendly local team. If you are someone with excellent attention to detail, high standards, and a desire to do your job to the best of your ability every day then a School Cook role may be the perfect job for you.

Main Duties

  • Preparing innovative and healthy menus suitable for the needs of our pupils
  • Ordering/stock rotation/stocks/cost control
  • Adhering to all food safety standards
  • Catering for allergens and dietary requirements
  • Supervising Kitchen Assistant Staff
  • Serving and greeting pupils

All Applicants Must Have

  • Experience in cooking in a commercial or professional kitchen ideally in a school kitchen or similar environment
  • To be able to cook high-quality healthy meals following a school menu
  • Able to work around a budget and order products when needed
  • To be able to cater to dietary requirements
  • Must be able to work in a team or by themselves
  • Able or willing to use kitchen equipment
  • Aware of kitchen hygiene rules
  • Good level of health and fitness- carrying stock up and down to the cellar
  • Good time management
  • Able to work unsupervised and deliver good-quality work
  • Able to follow instructions and work through tasks using own initiative
  • Full UK Drivers License and Own a Vehicle- not essential if you live in Haltwhistle as the site is rather remote
