Salaried General Practitioner Partner - up to 9 Sessions

An opportunity is available for a Substantive, Fixed Term or Part Time Salaried GP position
Up to 9 sessions per week (negotiable in line with surgery requirements). Working shorter days is possible and this vacancy could equate to two school hour days

We are looking for a GP whose main focus will be general practice but we can also support the right candidate to establish a special interest in hospital medicine, leadership or research to suit personal or career needs.
Glemsford Surgery integrated with West Suffolk Foundation Trust (WSFT) to provide improved healthcare services for patients in and around the village of Glemsford.
The successful candidate will be required to be an active member of the GP surgery and help with leading on aspects in the practice, eg palliative care or dementia. This can be discussed at interview
Main duties of the job
The post requires the post-holder to have an excellent understanding of and identification with the ethos of the Practice and to demonstrate this in their professional behaviour and dealings with the public. The post holder is directly responsible to the Practice Manager for all organisation and administration issues and the Clinical Lead GP for clinical matters.
The post holder is professionally accountable to the Deputy Medical Director for Primary and Community Care (WSFT) for clinical issues. They will manage a caseload, providing personal medical services and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
Where possible, the Trust will support a special interest to suit personal and career needs, or complete additional training to allow the post holder to specialise in an area of particular interest.

Clinical responsibilities
Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract and additional enhanced services or PCN services where appropriate
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her self-available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, video consultations, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
Providing counselling and health education
Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards using SystmOne
Collecting data for audit purposes
Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
Undertake other work which is deemed necessary for patients registered at the Surgery, including but not exhaustive, medical reports, letters, forms and other medical administration within core Surgery hours.
Behave in a professional and courteous manner to all members of the Practice team, including GP colleagues, Practice team and members of the WSFT Primary Care Team.
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Job plans will be created based on GP clinical sessions. A session is defined as 4 hours and 10 minutes periods of duty do not need to be exact multiples of sessions. For example, short days are permissible as long as the hours are all counted. An example would be where childcare commitments mean that an employee may prefer to work short days perhaps two days from 9 am to 3 pm and one day from 9 am to 1.40 pm = 4 sessions (16 hours 40 minutes).
Under the new GMS model salaried GP model contract:
Full time is 9 sessions or 37.5 hours per week
The length of a session is therefore 4 hours and 10 minutes
CPD entitlement is one session per week /4 hours per week on an annualised basis for full time practitioners and pro rata for part-time practitioners.

Virtual integration (VI) is an innovative venture supported by the West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group and local Alliance which provides support to the GPs and surgery staff from the local acute hospital trust and community services. We believe clinicians working together are in a better position to deliver effective, high quality clinical care.
This has allowed staff access to services such as: Occupational health, MSK Physiotherapist, Staff Wellbeing service. There is also currently a free gym membership with Abbeycroft gyms in the West Suffolk area.
Glemsford village is within easy reach of Cambridge (30 miles), Ipswich (25 miles), Bury St Edmunds (12 miles) and Sudbury (6 miles) and the surgery benefits from a co-located but independently managed pharmacy, enabling clinical and patient access to in-house help and advice for medication issues.
West Suffolk Hospital is a friendly and accessible hospital set in a 19-hectare parkland site on the edge of Bury St Edmunds. It has around 430 beds and serves a population of around 275,000 within an area of about 600 square miles.
