Research Scientist Edinburgh

A groundbreaking start-up working on novel DNA/RNA sequencing technology is recruiting a Research Scientist to join its team based in Edinburgh on a permanent basis. The company has just closed out their pre-series A funding round and is investing heavily in all areas of its team as it looks to release its product for clinical studies.You will play a hybrid role between core R&D activities involving RNA sequencing coupled with handling sensitive technical data and working closely with the bioinformatics team. This role will be suitable for a highly qualified PhD candidate who can also bring relevant work experience gained in either an academic or industry setting – covering both RNA sequencing and bioinformatics. Research Scientist responsibilities Design and conduct laboratory tests and experiments independently, ensuring accuracy and precision Optimise laboratory protocols Manage samples Record and report day to day activities
Collaborate with other scientists in the team to plan and execute laboratory projects Explore and analyse data sets Communicate key points of analysis and findings to other teams in the company Write and present scientific studies and findings Research Scientist requirements PhD in genomics or a related subject Extensive experience of working with RNA Excellent laboratory techniques and skills in PCR, nucleic acid extraction, and transcriptomic and/or genomic library construction Knowledge on transcriptomics and bioinformatics Knowledge and experience at handling sequencing data Ability to work within Linux command line Knowledge and experience with at least one programming / scripting language, such as: Bash, Python, R Excellent organizational skills Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping Ability to work individually or as part of a team This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious candidate looking to join a fast-growing start-up, working on novel technology that will transform the industry. £Comp + company benefits.Research/High-throughput/RNA/Bioinformatics/Python/Linux
