The Vacancy
We currently have an exciting opportunity. We are currently recruiting for Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our Asset Management and Engineering team within Manchester’s iconic Metrolink.
As a Electrical Engineering Manager, you will be responsible to deliver a Reliability Centred Maintenance strategy, by defining and improving how maintenance is undertaken. The role will support the Engineering Maintenance teams to deliver the effective maintenance of Metrolink’s electrical assets for safe and reliable performance.
Working under the direction of the Head of Engineering and Asset Management, the role is responsible for managing the relationship with the client (TfGM) engineer, ensuring compliance under the contract, raising any commercial issues, and pursuing commercial opportunities.
Key accountabilities will include:
• Be an effective leader of the E&M Engineering team, responsible for all people management matters relating to performance management, employee relations, recruitment, reward, and recognition, development, and engagement initiatives for direct reports.
• Acting as a subject matter expert for Electrical engineering and maintenance, contribute to the development and delivery of high performing team through ensuring objectives, standards, competencies, and key performance indicators are set, monitored, and reviewed.
• Provide clear communication and support mechanisms for employee wellbeing; liaising with relevant departments where required.
• Conduct risk assessments in conjunction with HSQE when required.
• Develop and implement relevant policies, procedures, task briefs and work instructions to underpin the Engineering ways of working.
• Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and standards.
• Work with the asset management team to analyse and report on asset performance and asset condition, driving improvement through raising renewals and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support the delivery of projects to deliver maintenance activities.
• Keep abreast of Industry best practice and deliver appropriate improvement initiatives for KAM.
• Minimise commercial exposure of KAM on discipline related issues and pursue commercial opportunities.
• Lead on complex root cause investigations.
• Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of the E&M Engineering team, embedding the zero harm principles and just culture in all ways of working.
• Contribute to building an inclusive culture, taking a zero-tolerance approach to behaviours and attitudes that go against the FREDIE culture.
What you’ll bring:
• Educated to degree level electrical or mechanical engineering and/or extensive experience of working In an engineering environment.
• Chartered Engineer or willingness to work towards.
• Knowledge of overhead line and electrical assets.
• Knowledge of Reliability Centred Maintenance principles and its application.
• Experience working in light rail or rail environment.
• Experience of using a Computerised Maintenance Management System.
• Experience in writing complex reports, policies, procedures, and work instructions.
• Extensive experience in a large maintenance environment with a focus on safety.
• Experience in conducting and leading complex maintenance root cause investigations.
• Ability to analyse data from a range of sources both quantitative and qualitive, including incomplete sources.
• Strong communicator both verbally and in writing.
• Excellent IT skills including ability to manipulate data in standard Microsoft Office software.
• Proven capability to lead, coach and motivate a highly skilled professional team to deliver services using best practice methodologies.
• Ability to understand and interpret legislation and standards relating to light rail systems.
