Regional Manager – Building Control

The Client



Our client is a well-established client who provide building control services on a variety of domestic, residential, commercial and industrial projects.  To work with homeowners, builders, architects and agents to ensure that any work carried out complies with Building Regulations and associated legislation; this includes providing practical advice and guidance where necessary.



The Responsibilities



To contribute to the growth and development of the designated region to include business development, dissemination of work, accountable decision making, ongoing business improvements and efficiencies, supporting and mentoring of Team Members.



To continue to deliver a highly technical and professional service to clients - including homeowners, builders, architects and agents -  on a variety of domestic, residential, commercial and industrial projects to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation; this includes providing practical advice and guidance where necessary.



To ensure that all work carried out and advice given is in line with the companies aims and objectives, and in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures and QA systems.



Key Responsibilities:-



Regional Management - To support the director responsible for the regional office by carrying out the following activities:



To work alongside the line manager to develop the designated region by identifying and exploiting new business opportunities.



To adopt Quadrant’s “collaborate” management style, empowering staff to take ownership of their projects and outcomes, increase engagement and promote trust amongst the team.



To monitor and manage the dissemination of work to ensure fair and even distribution across team members.



To act as a first point of contact for team members, advising and making senior level decisions where appropriate, referring any serious or critical issues to the line manager responsible for the regional office.



To monitor adherence to processes and Standard Operating Procedures and QA systems; report any serious issues to the line manager.



To facilitate and encourage communication across the team to improve efficiency in all areas.



To identify and reduce waste (including areas such as duplication of effort, mileage, etc).



To support and mentor other members of the technical team, including those less experienced members of staff (trainees or apprentices).



To conduct performance appraisals on a bi-annual basis and hold regular 1:1 and team meetings (in collaboration with the line manager).



Project Management




  • To provide pre-application advice to clients / potential clients in relation to Building Regulations.

  • Assess and set fees ensuring that the scope of work is agreed with the client.

  • Generate quotations.

  • Vet applicable documents to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations and associated statutory legislation and guidance.

  • Attend client and design meetings.

  • Carry out plan checks to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.

  • Carry out site inspections of work to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.

  • Ensure that all projects and inspection records, etc. are accurately recorded on the company database.

  • Compile technical reports.

  • Carry out all duties in accordance with the Company’s QA procedures.

  • Develop and maintain excellent internal and external stakeholder relationships.

  • Identify and secure new business.

  • Participate in training as necessary to remain up to date with new systems of work and legislation and to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Support new members of staff on Company Database, Company systems and processes, etc.

  • Provide support and advice to new and existing members of staff on Building Control matters.

  • Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and guidelines set out by the Company.

  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required, commensurate with experience and competency, as directed by a Director.



Skills and Experience:




  • Degree level qualification in Building Control, Building Surveying, Building Studies (or equivalent).

  • Professional membership of RICS / CABE

  • Anticipating a minimum of Level 2 under BSR registration

  • Ability to apply a practical, common sense approach to Building Control.

  • Ability to adopt Quadrant’s “collaborative” management style.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, imparting information in a non-confrontational, professional manner.

  • Ability to motivate and encourage others.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.

  • Possess effective time management and planning skills with the ability to take responsibility for own productivity.

  • Full UK driving license.

  • The ability to portray a professional image and a high level of discretion at all times.

  • Confident in the use of IT systems.
