Approximately 10% of the time will be spent on training and office-based tasks at County Hall, Oxford.Hours per week: 37 - over 5 daysContract type: Fixed term contract of up to 3 months to mid-SeptemberClosing date: Thursday 23rd May 2024 (Please make sure applications are submitted before noon.)Interview date: Wednesday 5th June 2024About usWe are looking for a temporary, full-time Food Waste Recycling Engagement Officer to work across Oxfordshire.Oxfordshire County Council arranges the disposal and recycling of household and other wastes collected by the five district councils in Oxfordshire. We have had the highest recycling rate of any county council in England for the last nine years.A key part of Oxfordshire’s high recycling performance is the food waste recycling service that is provided to all households. Although more than 25,000 tonnes of household food waste are recycled each year, around the same amount is still disposed of in household rubbish bins.About the roleTo further increase our recycling rate for household food waste, we are recruiting a recycling engagement officer to join the existing team to talk to and motivate householders about food waste recycling, provide service information, food caddy liners and, if they are not yet recycling their food waste, encourage them to start.As well as speaking with householders, the officer will be responsible for work and route planning, managing complaints and monitoring progress against team objectives to report back to the Council’s waste and circular economy team.The officer will also be responsible for a hired electric vehicle to safely transport the project team and supplies to the working area.About youAs a Recycling Engagement Officer will need to:be reliable;be self-motivated;have good time-keeping skills;work effectively and safely as part of a small team;have a good standard of literacy and numeracy,be able to manage, interpret and record information and follow instructions provided;communicate professionally and confidently with members of the public and project team members;have a full, clean UK driving licence.Good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and motivate householders to recycle their food waste are also crucial for this role.
