Role Description Full time, in person job Location: Nexus, Leeds, UK. Salary: 35.000-45.000£
Reporting directly to R&D Director, the R&D electronic engineer will contribute to the technical development of the electronic robot control platform and the endoscope on-board sensors. They will contribute to the evolution of the robotic platform from a prototype to a full product, ready for market launch. They will possess the technical skills to manage complex problems and propose innovative solutions to advance of our innovative robotic technology. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in PCB design, use of IC, and communication protocols, as well as knowledge of working principles of analog, digital circuitry and power electronics and hands-on skills (soldering, prototyping, PCB assembly). Responsibilities Collaborate with our cross-functional team to brainstorm and generate new technical solutions, refine their design and integrate them with mechanical and software components. Rapid development and iteration of full-scale prototypes of candidate architectures to satisfy requirements. Translate concepts into prototypes and ideas into action. Work under our quality system, using best-in-class management tools like Jira, GIT and e-QMS. Propose creative solutions to enhance product features and performance. Develop detailed product specifications based on requirements. Plan and oversee the laboratory’s needs, including purchases of equipment and supplies. Maintain and optimize laboratory resources, ensuring efficient utilization. Ensure compliance with industry best practice, regulatory requirements for medical devices and quality control standards. Foster a collaborative environment to drive innovation and achieve project milestones. Troubleshoot technical issues and ensure timely repairs. Design and execute experiments to validate product performance.
Qualifications Right to work in the UK Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Electronic engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics). Ph.D. in a relevant field is a plus.
Required Experience Proven experience in R&D environments, possibly in the field of medical devices. Familiarity with PCB design and troubleshooting AC and DC power distribution systems Communication protocols: I2C, SPI, CAN Sensors: Hall effect sensors, IMUs, ADCs Analog electronics, waveform generation and analog filteringUse of lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyser, function generator) Basic embedded software skills (I2C, microcontroller programming) Electrical analogue and digital measurements Familiarity with electronics systems and instrumentation. Strong organizational and leadership skills. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment
Desired experience 3D printing with SLA and FDM technologies Basic software development skills Electrical analogue and digital measurements Experience with Xilinx MPsoC is a plus
Experience with FPGAs is a plus. Knowledge of ISO 13485, MDD/IVDD, IEC 60601x, ISO 14971 is a plus Knowledge of Risk Management processes (DFMEA, PFMEA, AFMEA), DHF, and Tech File documentation is a plus.
