Quality Engineer (Calibration)

Location - Reading / Basingstoke Area

Salary: £35,720 - £45,000 (dependant on suitability and experience).

Closing date: 28th March 2024

AWE is recruiting for Quality Engineers with expertise to support numerous internal or external stakeholders of within their specific area. Work as part of a cross functional team to deliver improvement through collaboration on projects and programmes.

  • To ensure that Quality is represented at all stages of programme, project, trial, or production.
  • Provide technical guidance and customer support to ensure that deliverables and targets are met. Maintenance and enhancement of own skills, knowledge, and capabilities necessary to support both current and future work programmes.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Focal point for Calibration management & investigations related to equipment used within the Conventional Materials Technology Centre (CMTC).
  • Maintain & further develop CMTC's Calibration metrics, & present on findings at multiple forums.
  • Maintain calibration records.
  • Trend / drift analysis of calibration results.
  • Lead the procurement of new calibrated equipment.
  • Optimisation of calibrated inventory.
  • An understanding of Uncertainty of Measurement (UoM).
  • Quality Improvement Tools & Techniques (APQP / FMEA / MSA / SPC / 8D / 3 C's / Root Cause Analysis / Cause & Effect / 5 Whys etc)

Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates should be able to demonstrate some of the following experience:

  • Non-conformance management (Teamcenter Problem Report / 8D).
  • Defect Review Panel / Corrective & Preventive Actions.
  • Product Certification.
  • Quality Control Grading (QC1).
  • Quality Control Plans.
  • Product Lifecycle Management (Configuration controls & stage gate reviews).
  • Management System Audits.
  • Inspection Techniques (Micrometer / Vernier / Shadowgraph / Height Gauge / CMM).

Other desirable skills to include;

Machine Shop skills

  • Quality Engineer (Machine Shop bias): Knowledgeable in Machine Shop manufacturing techniques (Milling / Turning / Additive Manufacturing), either from a recognised apprenticeship or working knowledge is an advantage.

Non-Destructive Testing skills

  • Quality Engineer (NDT - Non-Destructive Testing bias): Demonstrably trained & certified in NDT (Dye Pen / Mag particle / Pressure & Vacuum) to Level 2 as a minimum, either from a recognised apprenticeship or working knowledge is an advantage.
