We are looking for British Sign Language Support Workers who hold a level 1 (or above) qualification and have experience of supporting someone with autism.
Who will you be supporting?
Hello, I'm shortly going to be living in my own home in Southampton, supported by SeeAbility. Experience of supporting someone like me, a man with autism is essential. I am also deaf, so I use BSL to communicate, and you will too!
I am looking for patient, positive, friendly, and happy individuals to join my team of support workers. You need to support me to lead the life I want and to encourage me to be gradually more and more skilled and confident. I love to interact with people, and I have a curious personality. I really enjoy doing things that most young men like to do like kick a football go for walks, eat out etc. I also like tabletop activities ranging from puzzles to art. I can be very playful too, so you have to keep up with me.
I’d love for people to join my team who have the same interests as me so they would need to be physically fit, 100% reliable and able to provide me with personal care support. I have autism and sometimes my behaviour can be challenging but that shouldn’t stop me doing the things I love and leading an active life. When I am not in a good place, I will stop doing things for myself and I will require a lot of personal care.
I’ll need your encouragement to learn life skills and gain independence but that’s something everyone needs at times; as long as you are patient, confident and can see the value in small gains, will follow coaching from my behaviour support person and are willing to help when needed we will get along just fine.
If you are looking to make a real difference, you could be exactly what I am looking for!
Responsibilities:
You will provide direct support when displaying behaviours to enable them to take part in a wide range of activities.
You will ensure good working practice including understanding and awareness of health and safety.
You will promote independence and develop life skills, whilst helping with all tasks necessary to ensure positive life experiences.
You will work positively with other agencies, parents, carers, and other services to ensure person-centred approach.
You will contribute to the development of records and support plans and become a keyworker when needed.
You will support and keep a clean-living environment catered to her individual needs.
To take part in regular and ongoing training relevant the person you will support's needs.
