Tradewind Recruitment is excited to partner with a highly regarded Specialist School in Blackburn that caters to pupils from 9 - 16 years old with a range of complex needs, focusing on SEMH support. The school is committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment that empowers pupils to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in the pupils' educational journey by providing tailored support and guidance. Your empathetic approach, along with your skills in deescalating challenging behaviour, will contribute to maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with classroom teachers to provide one-on-one and small group support.
  • Utilise your knowledge of psychology and behaviour management techniques to deescalate challenging situations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualised education plans (IEPs) and behaviour intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Foster a supportive and encouraging environment to promote social and emotional development.
  • Collaborate with the SENCO and other professionals to ensure effective support for Pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Engage Pupils in a variety of educational and extracurricular activities.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology or a related field.
  • Experience working with children and young people, preferably within Key Stages 2 to 4.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH and behaviour management strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic educational environment.
