Are you a highly-skilled and motivated Clinical Psychologist with experience of working with adolescents in mental health services? If so, there is an exciting opportunity to join the team at Emerald Place as a CAMHS inpatient Psychologist.


Emerald Place Clinic is a 12-bedded General Adolescent Unit (GAU), providing inpatient CAMHS care for 13 – 17-year-olds presenting with a diverse range of complex mental health needs


What you will be doing


You will be responsible for providing highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions for young people and their families, as well as providing psychological input to the multidisciplinary team.


You will be responsible for the supervision of Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists within the service. You will support staff development in the service, and will take on a role in training, consultations and staff support. You will contribute to service developments and development of care pathways.


You will receive regular supervision and line management from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. You will join a proactive and enthusiastic Therapies Team, as well as having access to a strong network of CAMHS Psychologists within Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust and across Elysium Healthcare. As a CAMHS inpatient Psychologist you will be: 



  • Providing a highly specialist evidence-based psychological interventions for young people with severe, complex and persistent mental health problems, learning difficulties and/or developmental problems.

  • Providing in-depth risk-assessments of young people who are at risk to themselves and to be able to formulate both short-term and long-term crisis planning.

  • Providing evidence-based and formulation-driven psychological perspectives to multidisciplinary risk management, care planning and decision-making.

  • Managing a complex caseload as the individual psychological therapist working within a multidisciplinary team, in addition to facilitating group psychological interventions and family/systemic interventions.

  • Monitoring clinical progress through regular reviews of psychological treatment.

  • Engaging and work with young people with a range of mental health needs and developmental difficulties, drawing upon your wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge.

  • Providing high-quality clinical supervision to Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists.

  • Supporting staff development through the provision of training, consultation, formulation meetings and reflective practice sessions.

  • Contributing to service developments within the Therapies Team and wider service.




To be successful in this role, you will have:



  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent), including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or equivalent if trained overseas.

  • Post-qualification training in the specialist application of formal therapeutic models relevant for working with young people in crisis.

  •  Experience working with adolescents and their families presenting with complex mental health needs, high-risk behaviours and neurodevelopmental conditions in a CAMHS setting.

  • Post-qualification experience of representing psychology within a multidisciplinary team and providing psychological perspectives into multidisciplinary risk management and care planning.

  • Experience of supervising and training junior members of the team.

  •  Post-qualification training in the supervision of others (or the ability to complete this within 12-months in post).

  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment as a qualified professional within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.

Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Elysium Healthcare are working in partnership to provide a new mental health inpatient service for young people in Surrey in a new purpose-built unit. Emerald Place Clinic is available solely for NHS funded care and treatment and the partnership brings together complementary expertise and best practice to jointly manage the inpatient unit and deliver a high-quality service for young people requiring inpatient mental health care. Within the service, we have staff employed by Surrey and Borders NHS Trust, as well as staff employed by Elysium Healthcare.
