The role




Our Metocean Measurements department is now seeking Project Managers to join the team based from either our Wallingford or Portchester offices. The team specialise in monitoring, measuring and providing advice on physical oceanography, predominantly for offshore renewables, oil & gas and coastal infrastructure projects in Europe and Africa.

This role would suit someone who has extensive experience of managing complex marine projects, who is used to thinking on their feet and enjoys working in a hands-on, practical environment. Knowledge of the Oceanographic industry would be beneficial but training can be provided to candidates with transferrable skills from other industries.

As a key member of the team, you will get to work on industry leading projects using the latest oceanographic equipment and will be required to work offshore regularly, which makes this a really exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a varied and interesting role. Additionally, you will be supported to learn, develop and progress within Fugro globally.

Who you'll be working with:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will work closely with the Metocean Measurements team, comprising of Oceanographers, Engineers and Project Managers, to ensure successful completion of projects and fieldwork.

Here's what a typical day would be like:

  • Project management responsibilities for metocean projects, maximising productivity and efficiency This would include client contact, financial management, decision making, safety planning, equipment and vessel sourcing, project documentation;
  • Interpret and implement all contract requirements for each project and ensure projects are delivered on-time to company standards;
  • Occasionally setting up survey equipment, preparing moorings, working onboard vessels, deploying equipment, collecting data;
  • Writing technical and operational reports;
  • Organising & occasionally conducting survey work; discussions with vessel companies / skippers regarding planned operations; tides, weather, methods etc.

Who we're looking for:

Essential

  • Transferable, relatable project management experience;
  • Good English language skills, verbal and written;
  • Excellent computer literacy, including working experience of Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent attention to detail, quality and safety;
  • Able to occasionally work offshore for periods of 1-7 days for UK based work and 1-2 weeks for overseas work.

Desirable

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Oceanography or closely-related subject is desirable but not essential;
  • An APM Project Management qualification is desirable.
  • To have held a supervisory or senior position within the industry;
  • Ability to plan and supervise survey operations, manage personnel and communicate effectively with offshore, onshore and Client personnel;
  • Data processing and report writing experience;
  • Offshore experience;
  • Experience in oil and gas, ocean science, renewables and/or survey industries.

Please note, you will need to pass an Offshore Medical prior to employment.
