ATA Recruitment is once again recruiting for a market-leading volume manufacturing business based in the heart of Northamptonshire. Established for well over 30 years, they are at the forefront of manufacturing engineered components for a variety of sectors, and they set the standards with stringent quality and manufacturing processes.

Generating over £18m annual sales, they are also part of a larger group with aspirations to become a £1b business over the coming years.  Having successfully recruited multiple staff for this organisation, I can honestly say they are a company that provides a great working environment, unparalleled support and the autonomy to drive production improvements in line with the overall group strategy.

Due to succession planning, this business is now looking to recruit a Project Engineer to join their team with immediate effect.

The Role

The role of the Project Engineer will follow projects for new plastic injection moulding tools that need to be developed for new vehicle projects.   You will follow these projects from cradle to grave making sure the customer, internal stakeholders and third-party tooling manufacturers all have clarity on project progress.   A typical project process would involve:

  • Our client wins a project to deliver a range of plastic injection moulded parts for a new vehicle.
  • The project consists of a defined number of plastic injection mould tools that need to be developed for future production.
  • You will put together timing plans to show the overall scope of projects.
  • You will take the lead in design reviews and feasibility for new tools being developed.  In this process you will work closely with internal stakeholders in production and in the businesses technical centre - Review the manufacturing techniques and ensure they have the technology to manufacture the products.
  • Support cost estimations, build target plans and build cross-functional teams (quality, logistics, injection mould specialist and production engineering).
  • Set up timing plans and work with suppliers and customers to support manufacturing schedules.
  • Identifying third party manufacturers of tooling and managing the third-party tooling manufacturing process (this typically takes 8-14 weeks)
  • Checking for any assembly jig and fixturing requirements for tooling.
  • Tooling samples are then received, and internal trials are held by third party manufacturers and feedback is given for any modifications required.
  • Tooling then arrives in the UK and small-scale production trials take place until the tooling is ready to be signed off for full production.
  • You will also provide any post production support once the tooling is being used in production.

The Candidate

The successful applicant for this Project Engineer role will need:

  • Some experience in a project engineer, project quality engineer, tooling engineer, supplier quality engineer or manufacturing engineering related role.
  • A HNC or higher engineering qualification
  • Experience and comfortable face-to-face with customers and suppliers as well as presenting project engineering solutions.
  • To be a highly organised individual and a strong planner.
  • Someone with strong attention to detail

For this Project Engineering role, you will receive:

  • £38,000 – 45,000
  • 25 days annual leave rising after three years’ service with the business.
  • Hours 8:30 – 16:30 Monday to Friday
  • Pension 4% matched by the employer
  • Employer pension contribution rises to 8% in the second year of employment.

You will be rewarded with an excellent remuneration package and the autonomy to drive project improvements as well as plenty of job security and job satisfaction.
