Role Profile
This post is an opportunity to contribute to an entirely new engineering capability in a resourced and dynamic UK based company seeking to develop new and groundbreaking IPR. The role will involve operating various advanced systems for manufacturing, testing and developing novel manufacturing specifications. In addition to this you will support design for manufacture alongside the engineering team. Collaborating with the Product team who are a broad group of stakeholders including industrial designers, engineers, researchers, and human factors through to end-users such as divers or explorers to design products and solve how they are implemented into a complex program. The candidate will be enthusiastic and inquisitive, keeping up to date with the latest trends and advancements in mechanical engineering.
Roles Responsibilities
Support the engineering lead in project planning and execution activities related to the manufacturing of pressure vessels, ensuring alignment with project objectives, timelines, and budget constraints.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and procurement teams to develop comprehensive project plans encompassing various manufacturing processes including wire-arc additive manufacturing, robotic welding, machining, non-destructive testing, coating, and heat treatment.
Coordinate with external partners, suppliers, and subcontractors to source materials, equipment, and services necessary for project execution.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and certification requirements, working closely with classification bodies such as DNV to obtain approval for manufacturing processes.
Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and challenges, and implement corrective actions as needed to ensure project success.
Prepare and present project status reports, updates, and presentations to internal stakeholders and senior management.
Foster a collaborative and cross-functional team environment, promoting effective communication, knowledge sharing, and problem-solving.
Provide technical expertise and support to project team members, addressing technical inquiries and resolving technical issues as they arise.
Manage project documentation, including contracts, specifications, drawings, and change orders, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and external requirements.
Troubleshoot and provide solutions to technical issues during the development of manufacturing specifications and testing.
Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, calculations, reports, and bills of materials.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in engineering, with a focus on production and manufacturing. Maximum attention and determination towards compliance with programs and deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. Proficiency in CAD/CAM.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
Familiarity with regulatory standards and certification processes, particularly in the context of pressure vessel manufacturing. Proven experience within the manufacturing industry, with a focus on maritime/shipbuilding environment. An interest in innovation and an open mindset to new technologies. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
