This is a great opportunity for someone who loves making new products (0 to 1), focusing on users and usability, and owning a product experience. You will be joining a team who have worked in other Series A startups, digital agencies, and at top tech companies including Booking.com and Sainsbury’s Digital Tech & Data.
About us
Utopi is one of the fastest growing companies in the UK. We are a pioneering scale-up technology business that enables the decarbonisation of real estate. Our platform is currently targeted at the multi-tenant real estate sector, providing a cutting-edge software solution to centralise, control, and monitor IoT devices across a portfolio of buildings anywhere in the world.
This is just the beginning; our platform has tremendous potential to do so much more to help the real-estate sector decarbonise, and that’s where you come in!
Role & responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Product & Design, the Product Designer will be responsible for driving usability of our new Resident App, including both the UX and the UI.
An MVP of the app was successfully piloted earlier this year and we are looking to rapidly iterate it and expand it. With a dedicated full stack product team (product manager, front-end and back-end engineering) and working closely with business colleagues in customer success, marketing and sales, we are looking for a self-starter who thrives in fast-paced environments to continuously improve the experience for students who use our app to improve their consumption of energy in their university accommodation.
You will need to be comfortable undertaking complex pieces of work, defining the user experience and the user interface, all based on a deep understanding of our users and your craft.
The ideal candidate is someone with experience in:
Identifying user needs, defining clear solutions, and delivering those through detailed design
Creating high-fidelity screens (we use Figma) and prototype touchpoints
Evaluating the performance of journeys, flows and screens, to find improvements
Collaborating with senior stakeholders
Team-oriented approaches to product development
As a guide we are looking for someone with 3+ years’ experience but we care more about the impact you’ve made than the time you’ve spent in role and everyone’s journey is a different one. We value a growth mindset, a willingness to own problems, an interest in building great products, a love of design, and a desire to make things better more than a person’s time-in-role.
You can find more information about our resident app here:
Interview process
For candidates who are invited to interview for the role, the process is as follows:
Initial 30-60 minute interview to discuss the role, your experience, what you’re looking for, and your background
A 60 minute case study interview where we will ask you to present a case study of a recent product initiative that you are proud of, one that demonstrates the experience we are looking for
A 30-45 minute cultural fit interview and a visit to our Glasgow office, to meet members of the team and peers, and get a feel for the company.
If successful, an offer
Please submit your CV (incl. a few sentences about why you’re interested) and a link to your portfolio.
Benefits
We offer a dynamic and collaborative work environment, competitive compensation, and opportunities for growth and advancement. If you're passionate about software development and want to work with cutting-edge technologies, we'd love to hear from you.
