Highview Power are seeking a Process Development Simulation Engineer with a strong background in process modelling, thermodynamics, heat and fluid flow analyses and simulations to contribute to the design and development of its commercial plant. This role is primarily focussed on dynamic process modelling of the Highview Power energy storage system but would also incorporate 1D and 2D heat transfer modelling and CFD analysis. The successful candidate will provide key development support but also take part in research for next-generation systems. Responsibilities: The
successful candidate will work as part of the Engineering Technology team,
delivering work under the supervision of one of our lead engineers. Key tasks
and activities will include:
Development of steady-state and dynamic process models for new and existing process designs. Perform simulation-based analysis of complex real-world operation of commercial scale plant.
Assess implications of Process Design choices and help drive operational strategies.
Interact with external suppliers to facilitate integration of components into the process design and investigate their performance.
Present to key stakeholders to clearly explain analyses and results and succinctly document work undertaken.
Collaborate with Process Development team members to review and assess outputs.
Support wider Engineering Technology team with ad-hoc analysis as required.

You will be expected to complete all tasks within the level of your skill and ability.Essential: Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Chemical/Process Engineering 1-3 years’ experience or a PhD.
Strong foundation in thermodynamics, heat transfer and turbomachinery.
A track record working in industrial research and development, with experience communicating results to a multi-discipline audience.
Experience performing 1D and 2D heat transfer modelling in Python, MATLAB, or equivalent.
Comfortable learning new simulation tools.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Sound report writing skills and ability to prepare, comprehend and communicate engineering and technological documents.
Strong attention to detail
Questioning nature, not afraid to ask questions.
High level of integrity and diplomacy.
A highly motivated, reliable and responsible individual.
A genuine interest in the environment, sustainability and renewable energy.
Desirable: A PhD or equivalent in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
An understanding of FEA and multi-physics modelling.
Process modelling experience (Aspen HYSYS, UniSim etc.)
Experience working on projects relating to energy or thermal energy storage industry an advantage.
Experience in industrial gases industry an advantage.
