Job DescriptionChildren, Education and Justice ServicesPrincipal TeacherWoodlands Special SchoolSalary : £52,896 per yearHours: 35 per weekWoodlands is a Special School, which makes provision for secondary pupils with complex, long term additional support needs. The needs of learners are primarily associated with learning disability/Autism Spectrum Condition. The current school roll is 80 and the maximum class size is 8. Pupils benefit from a breadth of opportunities, covering all areas within the framework of the national guidelines for the 3-18 curriculum. Each pupil has an Individualised Educational Programme, which includes priority targets drawn up in consultation with the school team, other professionals and parents. There is strong emphasis on developing the four capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence. Pupils are offered a broad and balanced curriculum including Health and Wellbeing programmes to support in the learning of independence and social skills. The management team currently consists of Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher, Business Manager and three Principal Teachers (including this post). Each class group is supported by a Pupil Support Assistant.The school has a Parent Council. Multidisciplinary teamwork is a central feature of the school and there is input from our Educational Psychologist, the School Doctor and Nurse and Speech and Language Therapist.This position is for a Secondary or Primary Teacher with a special interest in Health &; Wellbeing and Life Skills. The successful candidate will be appointed as Principal Teacher of Pupil Support with additional responsibility for developing a BGE Life Skills curriculum, being the school's co-ordinator for Equalities and Health &; Wellbeing as well as overseeing P7-S1 transitions and contributing to Woodlands curriculum reviewFor further information on the school please visit our website at to discuss this post please contact Head Teacher, Rhoda MacDougall on 0131449 3447.Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check.
