Principal Structural and Geotechnical Design Engineer

Location: Leeds OfficeSalary: Competitive (DOE)Job Vision:As the Mastermind of our engineering team, you will apply your expertise in structural and geotechnical engineering to an array of projects that range from shaft and tunnel designs to excavation stability support and ground settlement analysis.Your leadership, creativity, and technical prowess will guide a team of talented engineers and technicians, pushing the boundaries of industry standards while maintaining compliance. With your direction, our engineering solutions will continue to be a model of quality, efficiency, and innovation.Key Accountabilities:Guiding, managing, and inspiring the team of engineers and technicians, and aiding their professional development.Ensuring timely and quality delivery of design projects.Employing creativity and ingenuity in designing structures, in and out of standard codes of practice.Applying principles of temporary and permanent works design in accordance with relevant standards.Collaborating with external consultants and third-party checkers.Liaising with clients and construction teams to understand requirements and deliver design solutions accordingly.Producing reports for clients, including items for statutory authorities' design approvals, such as Network Rail and National HighwaysLeading NR and NH design approval process and liaising with the wider internal team.Contributing to business development activity and supporting tender bids when required.Required Skills, Experience and QualificationsEssential:Strong team leadership abilities and proven experience in mentoring and developing junior engineers.High-level technical competence in structural design skills and a sound geotechnical grounding.A minimum of 10 years' experience in designing underground structures and tunnelling temporary works.Experience in a design consultancy environment.Experience in undertaking the Network Rail CRE role and the equivalent responsible engineering role for Highways schemes.MSc in Civil and Structural Engineering preferred, Geotechnical and Mining degree backgrounds would also be considered.Chartered status or working towards it with a recognised institution, such as the ICE.Comprehensive understanding of CDM Health & Safety legislation, particularly Designer responsibility.Excellent communication skills and the ability to write detailed, accurate reports in English.Join Us As Our Mastermind:As our Mastermind Structural and Geotechnical Design Engineer, you will not only contribute to the physical landscape but also shape the professional growth of our team.
