About The RoleHippo Digital is recruiting a Principal SIEM Engineer to join our Hippo Herd. SIEM Engineers work in multi-disciplinary teams who build, support & maintain enterprise scale data platforms and solutions helping clients to drive transformation through improved data access and visibility.As a Principal SIEM Engineer, you will have experience working in SOC’s and be an expert in building, configuring, and maintaining Splunk Enterprise Security platforms and developing use cases to meet client security requirements. You’ll also be a strong communicator and leader of people and have a consultative approach to working with client teams Hippo will provide exciting opportunities to share your expertise with, and influence, clients and team members, and to continue to develop as a leader.The role in a nutshell:Splunk Core Certified accredited SME acting as both consultant and engineer on large scale Splunk Enterprise Security projectsCreating/tuning of SIEM detection rules to satisfy client requirementsProviding technical consultancy for Hippo clients predominantly in the cyber security spaceWorking in hybrid teams across multiple clientsLeading and providing mentorship to technical teams as well as acting as a technical escalation pointMentoring and coaching Hippo and client teams through knowledge transfer and upskillingCollaborating with the wider Hippo Digital’s Engineering & Data community to provide insight and awareness into latest industry trends and standardsSkills and experience that you needExtensive experience and expertise across the Splunk platform, its architecture and distributed components including premium apps (Enterprise Security, Phantom, etc…)Experience with Microsoft Sentinel Experience working alongside or within a SOC environment.Experience in writing detection rules in particular using SPL or KQL.Strong understanding of security technologies and frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK.Experience of agile methodologies and associated toolsets and code repositoriesCoding experience using languages such as Python particularly in relation to security use cases, Splunk app development, reporting and alertingExperience working with CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, and automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Git Actions, etc.Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skillsSelf-motivated and organised personHigh level of attention to detail, the ability to think architecturally at ‘big picture’ and able to translate this into practical implementationExcellent ability to execute where information is ambiguous, utilising professionalism, experience and prior knowledgeExcellent analytical and problem solving skillsStrong interpersonal skills; role will require engagement with a varied and senior stakeholder base as well as team managementDocumentation skills in order to provide high quality documentation for internal customers and technical teamsOpenness to learning and managing new technologies as business requirements changePlease note due to the nature of our clients we can only accept applications who meet the UK SC vetting criteria for this role.What makes us greatAs well as a competitive salary which we’re transparent about from the outset, you can also expect a range of benefits:Contributory pension scheme (Hippo 6% with employee contributions of 2%)25 days holiday plus UK public holidaysPerkbox access for a wide range of discountsCritical illness coverLife assurance and death in service coverVolunteer daysCycle-to-work scheme for the avid cyclistsSalary sacrifice electric vehicles schemeSeason ticket loansFinancial and general wellbeing sessionsFlexible benefits scheme with options of:private health coverprivate dental coveradditional company pension contributionsadditional holidays (up to an extra 2 days)wellbeing contributioncharity contributionstree plantingHi, we’re Hippo Digital.At Hippo Digital, we design with empathy and build for impact.
