Applicants must have experience of the following:
Previous experience in a Systems Engineering position.
Significant experience with the development of instrumentation systems.
Degree in Physics / an applicable engineering subject area (Optical, Mechanical, Electronics, Systems or Software), or equivalent experience.
Familiarity with all stages of the instrument development lifecycle, from early concept development through to delivery and reporting.
Ideally applicants should also have:
Experience in Project Management.
Experience in design engineering.
Role information:
We are looking for an experienced, practicing Systems Engineer to work on a range of instrumentation and metrology projects. You will have proven experience of guiding multidisciplinary engineering/science teams and will have been involved in all stages of the instrument development lifecycle, from early concept development through to delivery and reporting. First-hand experience as a design engineer in a primary engineering discipline (optical, mechanical, electronics, control and/or software engineering) will be of benefit.
In this role, you will be a key player as part of the project leadership team, alongside the project manager and head scientist. You will be responsible for the requirements engineering, overall system architecture, assembly, integration, validation & verification, installation, commissioning, and delivery of scientific instrumentation.
What you’ll be doing:
Working with science teams to develop instrument requirements.
Definition of the overall system architecture.
Definition and control of internal and external interfaces.
Application of end-to-end systems analysis and modelling.
Development of instrument performance models, manufacturing and alignment tolerances, and component specifications.
Derivation of and management of technical budgets/tolerances.
Development of assembly, integration and test plans to verify compliance with requirements.
Management of the assembly, integration and testing of systems and sub-systems of instruments and scientific products
Verification and acceptance testing at sub-system and system level. Stakeholder engagement and customer management alongside the project leads
Documentation of System Design, procedures and test results, according to our internal Engineering process.
Liaising with other specialists to ensure performance is maintained and requirements are met throughout the instrument development lifecycle.
