Principal Planning Officer

Our client, a well-respected organization in the HTP discipline, is currently seeking a Principal Planning Officer to join their team in a contract position. As a Principal Planning Officer, you will play a crucial role in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, contributing to its vision of accommodating sustainable growth and enhancing the existing environment and community.
Role Overview
In this role, you will manage a caseload of major planning applications, overseeing the entire process from pre-application discussions to application submission, decision-making, and the submission of post-decision conditions. Reporting to the Major Applications Manager, you will work closely with the team to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of major planning applications, ensuring adherence to relevant policies and regulations
• Lead complex minor applications and small major applications through every stage of the planning process
• Engage in pre-application discussions and provide guidance on planning requirements
• Oversee the negotiation and implementation of Section 106 agreements and viability negotiations
• Evaluate proposals, conduct site visits, and prepare reports
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including developers, architects, and community groups
• Contribute to the formulation and implementation of sustainable development policies
• Stay updated on planning legislation and national/local planning policy changes

Job Requirements

• Significant experience in Development Management, specifically managing major planning applications
• Strong understanding of town planning principles, policies, and regulations
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders
• Proven ability to provide expert planning advice and guidance
• Knowledge of Section 106 agreements and viability negotiations
• Ability to evaluate proposals, conduct site visits, and prepare high-quality reports
• Driven and motivated, with a proactive approach to achieving results
• Relevant qualifications in town planning or a related discipline
